The GP did not want to help me and found my concerns amusing. He also told me that 94 out of 100 people have autism and it’s not an actual thing. This made me feel horrendous as I have a diagnosis and am struggling currently. He then told me to withdraw from pregabalin that I have taken for years (I want to stop it) by cutting down by 50% the first week, then every other day the next, then 3rd week stop totally. This is extremely dangerous advice and my mental health is already compromised currently. He told me to just ‘not think’ if I feel anxious, that I need to have power to be in control. That I should be happy because I’m young, I’m getting married and I’m healthy. I left the appointment and cried most of the evening because I felt so stupid, unheard, ridiculous and like I was a hypochondriac. I have felt unwell for so long now and it is completely impacting my life and I cannot get anyone to listen to me. This appointment was so awful and this doctor lives in the dark ages and gives dangerous and belittling advice.

Doctors that are trained in mental health and autism awareness. Doctors that show compassion and believe patients when they feel unwell, despite what the biomedical results say. Doctors that treat patients holistically and with respect and don’t just stick to biomedical old fashioned methods.

I spoke with doctor kotcha and she was brilliant she really understood my problem and made me feel so much better about it, and was amazingly helpful, getting the appointment I don’t believe was great I called nearly two weeks ago and got made an appointment for the 28th hoping to have got my problem sorted before then.
