I have experienced extreme difficulties in obtaining appointments to see a doctor since the COVID lockdown. My experiences are proof that the GP service is still operating in lockdown conditions today. The surgery protocols are so rigid that as a patient my needs are being badly handled. However at last my recent long standing crisis was heard and I was so very grateful to actually have a consultation with a great Doctor and he also made a follow up appointment in 4 weeks. Thank you

The health service has a duty of care to the patients in their area. You are told by a voice recording :- that certain requests will only be dealt with at a certain time of day so call back later; You may or may not get a call back from the doctor (depending on what your health concerns are) ; You’re told that getting upset or frustrated about not getting what you need won’t be tolerated; And if you’re not successful today try again later at 2pm or tomorrow at 8am. Then you find you’re 15 in the queue of calls. Between the music “your call is important to us” actually IT’S IMPORTANT TO ME!!! This whole process can take all day. It’s rarely successful, and you wonder why scared patients resort to a&e service and the GP surgery is quiet and calm.
