I moved to South Croydon a few years ago and this surgery was recommended to me. In the begining everything was fine, I could always get an appointment if I needed one. I seldom go to the doctor so it didn't really affect me that much. However, a couple of years ago I injured my knee skiing and when I went to see the doctor at the surgery he told me there was nothing to worry about. He also declined my requests for ultrasound or MRI saying it was unnecessary. Sadly for me, it was, I had to pay for it privately and then needed to have a surgery. I was so angry, really terrible service. Luckily I was able to afford the extra tests and have the surgery privately and made think twice about the doctor's competence. Anyway, now in COVID times it's nigh on impossible to actually get an appointment. You spent 30 mins waiting for someone to answer and they finally do, all slots are taken call back later or tomorrow. And I agree with the other reviewers that receptionist are so rude. I decided to invest in private medical, I don't want to be dealing with this surgery any more.

Suggested improvements
  • So much. First of all, see people face to face. I understand we are still in the pandemic but also doctors take an oath to help people. I don't know how you can do that over the phone. Secondly, please train your receptionist to be courteous and have some compassion, people who are calling are usually very unwell and it's very upsetting to find out you are unable to see a doctor.

One of the receptionist is awful. She often gives the wrong information and is very abrupt.

Had concerns about our 8yr olds health. Receptionist told us we needed to speak to her Hospital Consultant and would not let us speak to a GP despite my wife begging I am also very concerned about the recent FCP Physio (private physio firm Surrey Physio) they have appointed. Physio friends from around the country have heard very negative things about the practice providing it. When friend physios and Drs saw the advice leaflet given to my wife last year (and still on the website today) they advised the content was 10yrs out of date. Looking for a new practice

Every time I call to get an appointment, which is only about twice or three times a year, all the appointments are gone by 8:35, 5 min after the lines open. When I needed emergency appointment for my child I was told each time that they have not been allocated and to call later. The receptionist was very unpleasant and abrupt and only when I said I was not going to leave without the appointment as my child was in a lot of pain the lady miraculously gave me an afternoon appointment.

I registered my family with the surgery in 1999 and can honestly say we have received outstanding care from everyone at the practice, from the doctors, nurses, phlebotomist and the receptionist. Everyone we have dealt with has been very professional, compassionate, helpful and go over and above to deliver first class care. The online booking system has helped with access to appointments, as the phone lines can be a challenge to get through at busy times.. The self check in system avoids long queues at reception and having phlebotomy on site makes having blood tests easy although can’t as yet be booked through the online system. The building is kept clean and the patient waiting area has many seats and magazines available. Parking can be a challenge, this encourages me to walk to the surgery where possible.

Doctor failed to recognise deep vein thrombosis symptom. 25% of clots go to the lung and cause PE which can be fatal. Incompetent. Far too worried about nhs funding issues than patient care

I have been a patient at Parkside for almost 20 years, I have found the doctors and nurses excellent, very caring and very approachable, however I have found recently that new receptionist employed there to be very rude and arrogrant, maybe some training on patient courtesy is required here. In all my 20 years with this practice , my first point of call to the surgery is the recepionist and I'm not expecting a sour faced receptionist who does not know how to speak politely to the patient or giving opinions on my correct dosage of my medication. There is one particular receptionist that stands out, which has forced me to make these comments as I find her quite rude.

Dr Smith was extremely helpful. I felt valued and informed.

I have been a patient at this practice since I was a child. The doctors and nurses have always been nothing but amazing and helpful, I couldn’t recommend them enough. However, the reception staff are extremely rude and unhelpful. They have no manners and make you feel like you are big inconvenience to them. They need training on how to be polite. Everyone I know that is registered here has also said they’ve had a problem with the reception staff.
