Excellent communication and one to one support particularly for supporting the parents of the patient. Good support from play team and nurses when procedures being done. Tried very hard to use diversion to avoid fear. Improvement: In the day care unit no separate room to use for children who get distressed when having a cannula. The patient is needle phobic and had to witness a smaller child becoming distressed prior to having a cannula. Separation would decrease anxiety.
