Review of Harrogate Stoma Department
14th June 2024

At all stages, my son's stoma nurse, Abbi, has shown great care and consideration to both him andy myself. Any concerns I have raised she has dealt with either immediately or as soon as she was able. I cannot praise her enough.

Suggested improvements
This area of treatment, if that is the right word, is new to both myself and my son and on the whole I/we cannot fault our experiences with his stoma nurse.

Throughout my care in hospital the stoma nurses were fantastic, they always treated me with compassion and respect. I was really upset when I found out that the surgery I had, had complications and required an ileostomy. The staff help me come to terms with this and day by day step by step they built up my confidence and broke down the anguish that I was feeling that I wouldn’t be able to cope.

Suggested improvements
I don’t have any feed back to assist in making the service better.

A very good service giving reassurance that everything is ok.

Suggested improvements
An annual check up and chat about anything unsure as above, would be good and give peace of mind.

I was seen at short notice, the nurse gave good advice that has really helped. I was given some emergency product to take away and help me through a difficult patch in my treatment. I could not have asked for more.

Suggested improvements
I don't think that anything more could have been done for me, it was first class.

My experience with my stoma nurse; Gill Wilson, is second to none. Shes caring, she’s knowledgeable and I feel heard every time I see her and the care I’ve received from her is wonderful so far.

Suggested improvements
Building work is being done on cedar ward currently and during my appointment today it was incredibly distracting and we almost had to shout to have a conversation about my care. Work should not be done whilst patients are in clinic. It’s not a particularly calming atmosphere for patients and for someone who’s recently had major surgery it really didn’t help. Aswell as this, cedar ward is very far to walk considering it’s on the other side of the hospital. Patients shouldn’t be expected to walk over 10 minutes to a new ward when the previous one was in the ground floor.
