Lack of staff meant IOL was started and then delayed several times, we didn’t see a midwife for 11 hours once, with no explanation. During this time no one checked us or our babies. Once ready to have my waters broken I waited 30 hours to be moved to labour ward for this to happen, by which time baby had moved position and the process became I more difficult and resulted in a longer labour. Whilst i understand women in labour obviously take priority we were left feeling very much like we didn’t matter. The room i was given in the labour ward had blood stains around the toilet which had not been cleaned properly, these were then cleaned up by the midwife. On a positive note, Claire Gamblin, the midwife who looked after me both in the induction room and labour ward was INCREDIBLE. She listened, understood and took every care to ensure I had the delivery I wanted. I could not be more greatful of the care I received from her and for the experience she allowed me to have. I have previously suffered 3x 3rd degree tears in labour and Claire’s care meant that this didn’t happen again. I cannot speak highly enough of her.
