Review of A&E (Emergency Department) written by a patient
25th October 2017

I was seen quickly by a lovely nurse and her student nurse. Prompt treatment was given and I was given a clear plan from the start. The DR who saw me called Meg was lovely and discharged me home with good advice and treatment. One a whole the service was great Thank you Only negative aspect of my trip was a nurse called karen she wore a different uniform to the other staff. I heard her being very horrible to the nurse looking after me. I felt upset as the nurse was so good to me. I hope she wasn't too upset by what she went through with her because she is doing a great job-(sorry didn't get her name)

So under staff in a and e. One doctor on to check all kids over. So wrong. Staff are great but it needs more doctors and nurses on. Then the waiting time wouldn't be has long and kids wouldn't be getting so flustered

I come to ae with my daughter often she has colitis and often in a lot of pain we are usually met with kindness and they help her to feel much better but on 12/08/17 the triage nurse was quite condescending about my daughter pain I think they should have more training on certain conditions or listen to patient got to major lovely people to say how busy they are

At this appointment, the nurses were lovely, kind and caring. When I saw the consultant, she was rude and I felt more of a nuisance than a patient. She was rude and I felt she didn't take proper time to examine my eyes. She didn't tell me much about what was happening with my eyes either. All the other doctors I've previously seen were very nice and helpful. When I asked if she thought I would need a stronger lens in my glasses, she was very rude and said she didn't do glasses.

I was treated on March 24th when I severed my thumb. I was seen quickly by triage, orthopaedic doctor and surgeon. I was given a choice between admission & IV antibiotics before surgery the next day or surgery that day under local anaesthetic, and I chose the latter. Everyone from theatre staff to surgeon to ward staff were informative, professional and friendly. I was only in the ward an hour then allowed home. My total time was six hours between having the injury and being back home. Impressive! Many thanks to all involved.

Throughout my pregnancy, my midwife has been fantastic. I've been given the option to be seen by health visitors also for support and info if needed which is amazing. However, during my 12 week scan (back in December) the Sonographer was miserable, rude and abrupt. Didn't like us asking questions and completely ignored my husband. I was nervous about having the scan but extremely excited at the same time ... I then had to have a C02 test by a student. As I have an unusual name which some people find it difficult to pronounce, she shouted "chow mein" which she found hilarious. As a qualified Nurse myself, I found this highly unprofessional and extremely insulting that she didn't just ask what the name said. She continued to laugh once I told her how to pronounce my name. Both these experiences on the same day ruined seeing my baby for the first time. Luckily, my 20 week scan was wonderful (a different sonographer).

As far as asthma treatment both in and out patient I can't fault. On all other occasions as inpatient you are surrounded by a lot of very UN caring people that are in wrong job or just don't care, from cleaners to some of the consultants. It's about time they remembered the word caring and about Active listening and time to listen. I'm an impatient as I write this , but am thoroughly dissappointed with care, communication or lack of, being included in treatment plan (A joke in itself). If wasn't for my Asthma consultant I wouldn't touch the place and as for cleanliness and all the training they allegedly receive well speechless !!!!!
