We arrived at 02:50am with my 7 year old who was having some breathing problems. The receptionist told me to take a seat. My daughter was sick in the sick bowl in waiting room. Still told to take a seat. Was seen around 5am by Triage nurse. Triage nurse was friendly and nice to be fair. Then told have to wait to see a doctor. At 07:50am the matron came out to the waiting room and stated it would be at least another 6 hours before anyone saw a doctor and so advised seeking support elsewhere. There was used cups, plasters etc around waiting room. So after 5hrs of waiting we were told to seek help elsewhere.

Some type of actual Triage on arrival. There was a man in the waiting room who had fell down the stairs. He was brought in on a hospital wheelchair and was told to take a seat. He was clearly in agony. Requested the toilet so another patient informed receptionist who got a nurse who clearly thought he should have been laid flat on a bed. If he hadn't needed a toilet he would probably have still been sat there for hours in pain. Another lady came in with a child who was struggling to breath. It was his second trip in. The boy coughed that much he wet himself. The recotionist told them take a seat. It was onky because his mum said he can't sit with wet clothes that she got up to fetch a nurse so he could be given some dignity and comfort that they got him some spares.

I came in on Saturday afternoon and was sent to the fracture clinic and was seen straight away. I then had xrays and was seen again to review them. Dr Patil and the nurse with him in clinic was very helpful and I was in and out within an hour. The service was alot more efficient than I expected. Thanks again.

Suggested improvements
Nothing, was very efficient.

I have large cell artiritus and any change in my eyesight has to be reported immediately to A and E as an emergency to avoid blindness. My Dr sent me there for immediate attention. My GP said I must tell A and E about this which did and said there is an on call ophthalmic doctor on call who would see me straight away. Six days before I had had a total hip replacement so my. Husband wheeled me in on an hospital wheelchair. The staff would not let him stay. I sat there for three and a half hours before anyone came any where near me. I could not wheel myself to get help. By then I was in extreme pain with my hip apart from my anxiety about my eye. Eventually the consultant in A and E got me an appointment in the eye clinic. In all I spent 5 hours sitting in a hospital wheelchair. No one seemed to have any knowledge of large cell artiritus or cared in spite of the fact I explained it clearly as my GP had asked me to. I was made to feel guilty for wasting their time. The condition is rare affecting 5 people in one hundred thousand. They neither knew nor cared. Extremely worried about using this service again. Desgraceful

Suggested improvements
Taken it more seriously and make some attempt to find out what they should do. I could easily have gone blind in one eye

All of the staff were friendly and polite and made us feel reassured that our son was okay.

Suggested improvements
Communication between a&e and paediatrics could have been better but we understand it was busy at the time we were in. We were also left sitting in paediatrics waiting room for around 4hours when it would have been better to have had our son on a bed as he couldn't rest properly in the waiting room.

As my son has a VP Shunt due to having hydrocephalus he is expected to be seen quickly due to how dangerous it can be to leave him waiting in a&e waiting room! We arrived at around 3pm and wasn’t seen by an actually doctor till 10pm! Who commented on how terrible a&e was to us to leave us for that long!

Suggested improvements
Have the reception staff know the kinds of emergency some conditions need for example hydrocephalus and VP shunts

The nurse we saw was very kind to my little girl and put her at ease .

The wait to get into the actual hospital is ridiculous. No triage system until you get to the front of the queue... we were stood next to a man with chest pain and a girl with suspected appendicitis...both of whom looked like they may pass out at any minute...both had to wait for an hour before they were even allowed to enter the hospital and actually be seen. I understand we have to be careful due to covid etc. .but surely there should be someone triaging the queue. Also only 3 chairs - i gave mine up for an old lady...but then got shouted at as people thought I was letting her push in. Also, a man who was clearly on drugs got to bypass the queue because he made a scene and was swearing at someone else in the queue. Not something my 4 year old should be seeing.
