Lately it has been very difficult to get an appointment, we are told to 'call back the next day', but each day, all the appointments are full unless you are very lucky. After being unable to get an appointment for a week and a half, I asked to speak to the secretary. Then I was told by reception that I could book for the next week, which I hadn't been offered before. Secondly, no patient likes being asked by reception, 'What is it about?' The question implies they are able to give out appointments sooner if they consider the need is urgent, but they aren't qualified to make that decision and it's an invasion of privacy to ask. A patient is quite able to say if an appointment is urgent or not. However, due to your lack of general appointments, I do believe some patients may now resort to saying an appointment is urgent when it might not be as it is not possible to get an 'urgent' appointment for the same day or a general appointment for the same week. I have no problem with the service once one gets to see a doctor. In the past there was a GP who didn't seem to like people, and some of you are better with patients than others, but on the whole it is a very good surgery and we are lucky to have it. The problem is simply that there aren't enough of you to cope with demand, and reception, like doctor's receptionists everywhere, often give the impression that their purpose is to stop us seeing a doctor.
