I arrived 9 minutes late for my blood appointment due to parking issues around the surgery. (I live 10 minutes drive away.) when I arrived I was told I had to rebook. When I pressed to be able to have the appointment the receptionist said I could stay an additional 40 minutes but the nurse might not be able to see me even so. I was again told I needed to rebook. In the end I had to accept this, as waiting 40 minutes for an appointment that might not happen was not possible on a work day. I have many times waited from 20 to 60 minutes past my appointment time when a doctor or nurse is running late, but I felt badly treated for a situation I couldn’t help.

Suggested improvements
If the receptionist had been kinder about the situation and showed some empathy and understanding that would have helped, even if the answer was still that I had to wait an extended period. But instead I felt totally dismissed and that my situation really didn’t matter. Empathy and understanding that things happen sometimes, and an attitude of helpfulness would have gone a long way toward making me feel positive about this appointment. Instead I felt angry and upset and carried that with me for a long while during the day.
