The drug is a good treatment for shingles. However, not only is shingles a horrid illness, the side effects of the drug make you feel worse. But the drug does lessen the seriousness of shingles, especially if it's given within 72 hours. I've ridden out the side effects four times now, three times making a huge difference to the outcome. Stick with the drug, take it exactly as told. My only regret is hair loss, as a side effect.

For cold sores this very effective.

I suffer very badly with cold sores I take Aclivoir twice a day I have been on this dose for sometime now and I can honestly say it that time I’ve had a cold sore 3 times nowhere near as bad. If you suffer with cold sores and I mean have really bad breakouts I can recommend this medication for them

The medication works great and clears the herpes breakouts really quickly however after taking the serpressive treatment twice a day for six months, I tested for high levels of protein in my urine. (Proteinuria) I was advised to see my Gp... they're still unsure if it is the Aciclovir so tests are on going, I have been advised to stop taking the tablets daily and only if I have a break out. It has only been 5 days since I last took them and I'm already feeling a breakout coming on... it's so depressing as I was told that the drug is realativly new and and other treats contain similar ingredients. I'm not sure what I'll do if I have to completely come off them as the breakouts are too frequent and unbearable. Any advise would be helpful

It makes you feel a little out of sorts initially but as its only taken for 5 days it is not too difficult to tolerate.
