I seen at Stamfotd and Rutland Hospital. i had similar injections previously at a different hospital under a different consultant who was rather brash, rude and uncaring, so I was a little bit worried about the whole process. As I was going through the process of booking in I spoke of my concerns to a nurse prior to my procedure and I was put at ease straight away away. She listened with care and concern and was totally understanding of my feelings. Dr Kandikattu saw me before the procedure and explained in great detail each step of what would be happening. During the procedure I was so at ease it was rather a pleasant experience, Dr Kandikattu explained everything he was going to do prior to doing it. asking me all the time if I was OK. The whole team in the room were truly wonderful and caring. ensuring I was comfortable and ok In fact we spent the whole time talking about the local cathedrals and which ones had been used in Hollywood blockbuster films. that's how relaxing the whole experience was. Dr Kandikattu even joined in the conversation at one point. Afterwards the care given to me was superb and the cup of tea and biscuits was excellent. My procedure was a week ago and I'm still pain free, (provided I don't overdo things). I cannot praise Dr Kandikattu and his whole team enough for all they have done. They really are amazing. It's still early days for me yet but finally after many years of chronic pain, limited mobility and walking bent over (searching for pennies as my kids say ha ha) I'm hopeful that I can finally there will be light at the end of the long dark. lonely tunnel.

At the age of 88, I received a second set of injections against my back pains. The pains had returned after nearly nine months, later than expected, and were yet still somewhat less strong than previously, when Dr, Kandkattu ended the suffering by arranging for another intervention early. The procedure itself went as the previous one like a dream: I was put completely at ease, there was no pain to speak of. Dr. Kattekanu gave all the time a running commentary of what was happening. He and his staff really made sure that I was comfortable throughout. Afterwards and since then I have been pain free, can walk the dog without having to stop every twenty yards, and are again regularly going to the gym. Dr. Kattekanu deserves in by view our highest praise!

Dr Kandikattu is one of the few pain medicine consultants in East Anglia to have gained certification in the Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP). He uses the biopsychosocial model of pain to offer modern assessment and management of his patients’ pain at the Peterborough City & Stamford Hospital, Fitzwilliam and Boston West and Clementine Churchill Hospitals.

“Whilst doing my pain training at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital, I was inspired by the pioneers in pain management there and I became keen to learn new techniques.”

“I am pleased to now be able to tutor students studying for their MSc in Regional Anaesthetics at the University of East Anglia and I hope that I can instil some of desire to embrace new and modern pain management techniques in these trainees.”

Dr Kandikattu offers comprehensive pain management to people suffering from chronic pain from their head to their toes including: cancer, musculoskeletal and spinal (neck, chest, lower back, sciatica), neuropathic, complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic headaches and persistent post-surgical pain.

He performs a full range of pain interventions including epidurals, facet and sacroiliac joint injections, radiofrequency denervations, most of which are image-guided using x-ray or ultrasound guidance. He is also an expert in treating acute pain and inpatient pain management.

Patients struggling with chronic post-operative pain may need further pain management to relieve their discomfort and Dr Kandikattu can offer a back-up service for them too.

“I use this holistic model of approach for all my patients, taking all the biological, psychological and, social factors into account as each can impact on a patient’s pain. It’s important to treat patients as a whole.” said Dr Kandikattu.
