I suffer with a huge phobia of needles & to say I was extremely nervous would be an understatement. As soon as Niven came to see me before the surgery his smiley face and lovely sense of humour put me at ease straight away, I felt that he really listened to my concerns and dealt with me in the best way possibly by being sympathetic, understanding and also making me laugh! In the end I decided to let him use a cannula rather than the gas mask which I had previously had my mind set on and let me tell you, I did not even feel the cannula go in! The man is magic and I am so thankful that I was lucky enough to have him as my anaesthetist! Thank You Mr Akotia you are amazing at what you do!!

Considering how nervous I was about having the general anesthetic Dr Akotia was incredibly understanding & totally put my mind at rest. He made me laugh when I thought I would cry, so highly recommended.

He explained everything very clearly and made sure I understood what he was doing, what was going to happen and how. Such a great doctor who listened to all my anxiety’s and put them at ease. Would recommend to all. Brilliant bedside manner and great sense of humour when needed. Definitely made me chuckle in this not so funny situation.

Dr Akotia was very friendly and made me feel very relaxed. He was my anaesthetist for minor surgery and I can't even remember falling asleep! He was very attentive and took the time to talk to me about what was happening before and after surgery.

Dr Niven Akotia was amazing at putting me at ease and giving me advice for pain relief after a minor op. I had a serious sexual assault via Rohypnol a few years ago and as such, I had worried for weeks about going under GA. I didn't want to feel woozy and I didn't want to remember anything about my previous assault, I feared I would wake up and have a PTSD response to memories. I had also convinced myself I might not wake up at all, as I had never had GA before. Lot's of 'what if's', lot's of fear of the unknown. ' He spent time listening to me, taking charge through my rambling as I was VERY anxious indeed. He was honest, professional, has a great sense of humour but more than anything he was confident I would be ok and true to his word, I woke up feeling amazing! I can't praise Dr Niven Akotia enough. Thank you so very much
