I was scheduled to have an online autism assessment on 26th April with a Dr at Psychiatry UK. Due to technical issues, I ended up having 30 minutes with the Dr who did not give me an autism assessment, but rather started to question me about ADHD - at one point saying 'ADHD is great news because it is controlled by medication'. I complained to Psychiatry UK and asked to have a second appointment with another Dr. I was told that this was not the policy and was offered another 30 minutes with the same Dr who did not give me an autism assessment but continued to tell me why I wasn't autistic based on the paperwork I had submitted. At one point she said: we won't give you a diagnosis just because you ask for one. Of course, I understand that but I would have liked to have a proper assessment before this decision was reached - especially as I have struggled for 43 years and never considered autism as a possibility before my mental health nurse told me it was extremely obvious. I have come to the conclusion that the process is too rushed to be comprehensive and would therefore not recommend it to others. The whole experience has left me stressed, upset and extremely confused.
