I found Professor Aziz to be most understanding and caring. He explained the best treatment for me and made sure that I fully understood everything. He has a very pleasant and reassuring manner, which immediately inspired my trust in his care. I had laparoscopic right hemicolectomy surgery and was in hospital for 5 days. I received amazing care from Professor Aziz and his medical team during that time. I am most grateful to Professor Aziz for his services and would not hesitate to recommend him.

I received a colon cancer diagnosis following a colonoscopy and CT scan at my local hospital. There then followed weeks and weeks of delay and disagreement by medical professionals, who advocated different approaches to my treatment. After extensively researching the best surgeons available in the field, I made an appointment to see Prof. Omer Aziz at The Christie Private Care in Manchester, who saw me very quickly. Prof. Aziz took my history and explained my scan results, making it clear that the procedure that was being recommended for me locally would have been unsafe, due to the lack of clarity about the depth of tumour into the colon wall. There was also a peritoneal nodule suspiciously close to the tumour site, which was not going to be dealt with locally. Prof. Aziz comprehensively explained what he saw in my colonoscopy and CT scan reports and laid out all the available options and possible outcomes. I felt that the weight of my cancer diagnosis was lifted in an instant knowing that I was now in the hands of, not only an expert in his field but also an extremely caring and understanding human being. A PET scan was quickly arranged by Prof. Aziz and following the results I was put forward for consideration for cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC, which was subsequently performed. Prof. Aziz contacted my very worried husband immediately following surgery and put him at ease. He also visited me on a daily basis during my 14 day hospital stay, where I received excellent care from all of the nursing staff. My follow up consultation with Prof. Aziz brought excellent news, the operation was a total success and the histology results showed that follow up treatment was not required and an appointment was made to see me in three months time to check on my post operative progress. I can’t thank Prof. Aziz enough for his expertise, advice and caring thoughtful approach, I will be grateful to him always and would not hesitate to recommend him to others in my situation.

Following the diagnosis that I had a tumour in the sigmoid colon, I was referred to Professor Omer Aziz at The Christie Hospital. From our first meeting with him, my husband and I knew we had a special consultant. His kind manner and excellent communication skills immediately put us at ease. It was clear that he was empathetic to our situation, not only to my concerns as a patient but also to how my husband would be feeling. At all times we felt that we were in partnership with Professor Aziz, that he was not simply telling us what was about to happen but that he was involving us in the decisions. He explained that, prior to the operation, it was not possible to be definite regarding the outcome. Previous procedures eg scans provided a detailed assessment of the situation but the operation and the follow-up tissue biopsies would determine a much more accurate outcome. Professor Aziz listened patiently to any questions my husband and I posed and answered them simply and clearly. Whilst keeping us fully informed of possible complications eg needing a stoma or follow-up chemo/ radio therapy he also reassured us by outlining the fact that these may not happen and why. Members of his team talked us through the process of having a stoma and in doing so prepared us for this eventuality if it were to occur. With this knowledge we could be hopeful without being under any illusions. Immediately prior to my operation Professor Aziz came to talk to me. Again, I found this reassuring and immediately after the operation he contacted my husband to explain how it had gone. We were pleased to hear that the operation had been successful and neither a stoma nor follow-up therapy was necessary. This is due to Professor Aziz’s excellent surgical knowledge and expertise. My after care in hospital was first rate. Professor Aziz and his team were attentive and supportive at all times. Professor Aziz has continued to provide excellent care, visiting me daily whilst I was in hospital, arranging the six monthly monitoring scans etc and during follow-up consultations answering questions and providing information and reassurance. Professor Aziz is a highly talented, skilful and approachable professional who has a gentle and caring manner. My husband and I cannot thank him enough for the excellent care he continues to give.

I only have the highest praise and regard for Professor Omer Aziz. He has literally given me back my life after going through almost two years of cancer, which was , at times , a complicated rather than straight forward journey. Mr Aziz had the positivety, expertise and encouraging outlook to inspire me to carry on, jumping the next hurdles, when I wondered whether I had the energy to do just that. My heartfelt thanks go out to Mr Aziz and his team at Christie's Hospital, you are a credit to both the NHS and the medical profession. Kind regards, Matthew Parkinson
