Mr Vanash Patel was awarded the iWantGreatCare certificate of excellence in 2025 for delivering outstanding care.
Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon, Honorary Clinical Research Fellow Imperial College London, MB BS, MSc, PhD DIC, FRCS (Gen Surg). My clinical interests are in minimally invasive (robotic and laparoscopic) surgery for colorectal cancer and benign conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulosis. I also specialise in treatments for perianal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fistula and anal fissure, as well as general surgical conditions such as hernia. I graduated from St George’s University of London in 2000. I completed my specialist surgical training in the North West London Deanery. This was followed by two fellowships at St Mark’s Hospital London and the London Colorectal Fellowship (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and University College Hospital). In addition to my clinical work, I have wide research interests which have been established through my MSc in surgical science and a PhD both attained from Imperial College London. My research focuses on collaboration, leadership and mentoring in healthcare, which has culminated in numerous peer-reviewed publications in a broad range of surgical disciplines and international and national conference presentations. I currently work as a consultant colorectal and general surgeon at Watford General Hospital and Spire Bushey Hospital.
Mr. Vanash Patel has a reassuring and professional presence. He took the time to clearly explain my condition, the available treatment options, and the recommended course of action, which gave me confidence in proceeding with surgery. The procedure itself went smoothly and in line with what he had outlined beforehand. Throughout my recovery, Mr. Patel and his team provided excellent postoperative care and support. In particular, when I experienced unexpected bleeding following the procedure, they were readily available to guide me and ensure that I received the appropriate attention and treatment. I am grateful for the care, professionalism, and reassurance shown by Mr. Patel and his team throughout the entire process.

I cannot praise Mr Patel and his team too highly for the care and skills they showed in my recent treatment. I was kept well informed both before and after surgery in what was a stressful time for me.. Thank you.

Fantastic doctor that carried out both the initial emergency surgery and then elective reconstruction 14 months later. Using advanced techniques to minimise scarring and facilitate speedy recovery both times. Couldn’t recommend more highly.

Mr Patel was great from start to finish. Provided all the details and information needed, put me at ease before my surgeries and let me know exactly what to expect. He didn’t mince his words which I appreciate and the surgeries I had were both a success.

I cannot praise the care provided by Mr Patel and his whole team enough. When you've been diagnosed with cancer it can be a very stressful and worrying time but he put my mind at rest and described the surgery that I was going to have in detail. He answered all my questions and gave me a lot of reassurance. I would not hesitate to give him a 10 out of 10 score. Grateful thanks, Mr Les Shattock.

We sincerely thank the doctor who performed my husband’s surgery. From the very beginning, he was kind, calm, and very informative, explaining everything to us in a simple and clear way. The operation went very well, and we felt that he was in safe and experienced hands. We especially appreciated his attentiveness, compassion, and the genuine care he showed both before and after the surgery. We highly recommend him with confidence and sincerely thank him for his care.
