My operation was very straightforward and happened as explained to me .Following the operation the pain was bearable and after the first 3 days I haven’t had to rely on pain killers .My previous hip pain had gone it was just the muscles repairing and the operation wound that I could feel but the pain was bearable . I was on my feet the next day and the hip felt strong .Discharged after 3 days I was able to move around freely with crutches and went to one crutch after a week. No crutches 3/4 weeks.I was able to sit on an ordinary chair after 4 weeks . Walking fairly freely and driving after 5 Weeks. I have so much more movement now and hadn’t realised how limited my movement had become . A very positive experience . The after care was amazing I even had follow up phone calls at home from the hospital checking on my progress . Any issues I had were promptly dealt with .
In the consultation I was given many options alongside surgery and was told the risks involved. This reassured me and made me have confidence in my decision to have surgery with this doctor . He discussed exercises prior to the operation which helped a great deal.
I must say the anaesthetist was brilliant too and spoke to me about having a total block. I was reluctant but took the option. I was amazed by the whole thing about being awake and recovered must more quickly than my previous operation.
They were a great team .
I found Mr Pierce to be very patient and kind. He fully explained the procedure during my first appointment and prior to the operation. I was very confident in his manner and he put me at ease.
He came to see me following the procedure and the day after.
At my follow up appointment I received the same patience and kindness
From my first consultation I felt a ease with Mr Pearce, he explained my options after reviewing my X-ray and sent me away to make my decision. On our next appointment he agreed with my decision and at no time did I feel judged. The care I got from The Spire was first class and run smoothly right through to his sign off when he was happy with my recovery. Wouldn’t change any of the care I got.
Mr Pearce has a very good bedside manner. He took time to explain everything about my procedure and why it was required. Everything about my care under Mr Pearce was first class.
The only suggestion I would make is around the supporting literature. Whist the existing literature is very good and of course every patient is different I would have liked more information around how I was supposed to feel at say 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks post op. For example the literature suggests that I would be able to resume normal day to day activities at six weeks but I would have found it useful to know what levels of pain and discomfort to expect at the above intervals to stop me worrying about whether or not things were progressing as they should be.
