My experience from the start was 5 star from Simon to Sarah & Kay the specialist nurses. I felt confident and completely comfortable in choosing Simon and his team to perform my gastric bypass, as they all were so welcoming on my first visit with each of them. The team checked in on me every day during my stay in hospital and answered all of my questions. Any concerns that I had were answered by text or email. I have been contacted every day since my operation last week to check on my progress and I feel amazing. I'm thankful that I took the time and courage to step out of my comfort zone. All I can say is thank you, you're helped me change my life and save my life.

Mr Simon Monkhouse is a open, kind and accessible doctor, he explains the procedures and enable an open dialogue where you can feel you can ask any question regarding your problem. He is amazing at communication and leaves many health professionals behind especially consultants with enabling email communication rather than the very short in and out patient/ consultant appointment. This makes the patient journey more personal and supported. I hope that his methods pave the way to better patient/ consultant relationships which I am sure give better outcomes in the long run. I feel lucky to have got referred to him and he also did a very good surgical procedure as well. He is a credit to the hospital.

Mr Monkhouse was recommended to me by my Gastroenterlogist at Gatwick Park as I needed surgery to repair my hiatus hernia and acid reflux. I was so pleased that Mr Monkhouse carried out my surgery as his knowledge and care are second to none. During my consultation he explained everything fully including drawing pictures to show the different ways my stomach could potentially be folded. My surgery went well and the aftercare from Mr Monkhouse was fantastic! He urged me to email him if I had any concerns or problems. Unfortunately, my recovery was not that great and whenever I emailed him, I would receive a reply very promptly. I needed to have another procedure to slightly stretch the opening of my stomach as the fundoplication was a little tight - no fault of Mr Monkhouse, my body was struggling to cope with it. Once again he was very thorough to ensure I had all the necessary tests before hand and everything went well. Mr Monkhouse was there for me every step of the way and I am extremely grateful! Hopefully I will never have to have any other kind of surgery, but if I do I hope the consultant is on par with Mr Monkhouse.

I had a gastric balloon and although the initial procedure is quite uncomfortable and scary, if I was to recommend the procedure to a friend I would insist they consult Mr Monkhouse. He did his best to put me at ease, and he and his team made me very aware that the procedure could result in a minimal weight loss right from the outset. I did have some additional health issues and was admitted to hospital whilst they monitored my heart. I informed him and his team and Simon was on duty in the hospital I was in, as luck would have it, and he made it a point to come and see me, even though I expect he was very busy, and put my mind at rest about the balloon not having been the cause of my heart problem. He is a very pleasant, engaging person and I am glad that he was my consultant.
