I have only had the initial consultation so far, with a few tests ordered so this is based on one meeting only. Mr Lambert listened so closely and intently, and spoke to me as an individual, wanting to hear everything I had to say about a great many things. I am so used to being treated by doctors who only seem to want me out of their consulting rooms as quickly as possible, so at first I didn't quite believe what was happening, but I gradually realised I was being taken seriously and my problem was being considered thoroughly (even though it probably isn't that serious comparatively speaking). It was a huge relief and now I look forward to continuing the treatment and hopefully successfully dealing with my problems.

This is the 2nd shoulder replacement operation Mr Lambert has completed for me. He always explains everything clearly and sympathetically and reduces any worries I might have. His attitude is to always put me completely at ease and I think he is probably the most understanding and caring doctor or surgeon I have ever encountered.

Mr. Lambert was very polite and welcoming. I was immediately put at ease by his manner. He listened to me and I felt that he would be able to help me with my shoulder problem. After his examination of the range of movement of my shoulder, he explained what he thought might be the problem and gave me the opportunity to ask questions. My appointment was not hurried. I left his office feeling that he will be able to correct my shoulder problem so that I could resume my activities.

I was very pleased to meet with Mr Simon Lambert, a lovely gentle man. My mind was immediately put at rest after speaking with him about my shoulder problems and I have every faith in his advice, which I am following diligently. My appointment was not rushed, Mr Lambert gave me all the time I needed to ask questions and more besides ! Many thanks Mr Lambert.

Profile

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in the shoulder and elbow. I also hold an honorary academic appointment within University College London. Having worked at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), a specialist orthopaedic hospital, where I created a research-active, educationally-acclaimed, science-based service, integrated with and recognising the extreme importance of expert rehabilitation, I have now moved to University College London Hospital. We enjoy a national reputation for clinical excellence and clinical research, which I fully expect to contribute to over the next decade. We value our national and international collaborations, and expect to develop these further with the evolution of the service. As a component of this effort my work with the AO has offered opportunities to younger colleagues while bringing the values of the AO to a wide variety of surgeons and therapists. Truly international collaboration and exchange of ideas clearly enhances and promotes the efficacy of patient-directed care and forms the basis for the motivation behind my development of the shoulder and elbow service at UCLH.
