Unfortunately Mr Ellis cancelled my op due to the heightened risk of infection, I have diabetes. Although I can appreciate his reasons I was very upset and felt the message from the nurse was curt and implied it was my fault. I would have appreciated a message, or call from Mr Ellis. The good thing it has spurred the diabetes team to review my meds at last.

Response from Mr Simon Ellis

I am very sorry that your operation has been postponed as a result of the increased risk of infection secondary to your diabetes. It is vitally important that the risks of elective surgery are reduced to the lowest possible level. I was also informed of the cancellation by the pre-admission team who contacted you. I do understand that cancellation of surgery is always upsetting and is generally undertaken for good medical reasons as in your situation. I hope by the time you read this feedback you will have had the opportunity to read the letter I wrote which was sent to you explaining the course of action we needed to take. I appreciate that you would have appreciated a call from me personally and I have taken this on board to help others in the future. I look forward to undertaking your surgery when the time is right. With kind regards Simon Ellis

Mr Ellis performed ACL reconstruction on my right knee back in 2008. He was incredibly knowledgable and experienced with my injury which instantly put all my concerns at rest. My surgery was a success and I returned to participate in sport fully. I have now experienced a separate injury to my knee and instantly Mr Ellis was the only man I wanted to see. He went above and beyond to prioritise me and made me feel incredibly well cared for. There is no one else I would rather see for such an injury as mine.

Having seen Mr Ellis, I now feel reassured about my forthcoming operation, due in February 2018. He certainly made me feel at ease and explained everything in detail. Very reassuring.

On meeting Mr Ellis I felt at ease, talking through the procedure step by step in such a way that I put my trust in him. After my op Mr Ellis telephoned my husband ensuring him that all went well and that I was in recovery. Such a thoughtful gesture, what a lovely, kind and caring man. Thank you Cheryl Elcomb

I have been suffering with arthritis for some considerable time and am a little apprehensive about an operation, but Mr. Ellis gave me such reassurance, that I now feel more confident about having an operation and hopefully, looking forward to, once again being able to at least walk, without having to rely on others. Thank you.
