Dr Mathew operated on me twice in 2023, the first time on my thumb and the second on my wrist. I cannot thank him and his fantastic team enough for the care that I received throughout this process. He was caring, considerate and communicated with me clearly each time I met with him. He’s an exceptional Dr and I’m enormously grateful for everything he did for me

Mr Philip Mathew is, without doubt, the most polite, caring, pleasant, unassuming, no delusion of grandeur, amazing Consultant! I had the great honour of being one of his patients back at the beginning of December 2021. I had fallen and was seen in Urgent Care at weekend at Chelsea and Westminster hospital and referred to Mr Mathew after weekend. Words cannot explain how both his Registrar Rupert and Mr Mathews came to my aid at a very traumatic time. I was told I had a complex compound fracture of my left wrist. To my amazement I was taken in for surgery at well past 6pm. The operation I am told took over an hour and the next thing I knew I was being admitted for the night in cast and various padded arm slings. From then on I have been under the Mathew’s care and have had regular appointments in his very busy clinic. The care I have received from Mrathew and his team has definitely enabled me to carry on my voluntary work, as I am a War Widow. Today, I was discharged from Mr Mathew’s clinic 101% mended. Mr Mathew arranged for numerous Hand Therapy sessions with his Physios who were all ‘Angels’ and gave me confidence to battle on. If you are ever in the position of having an injury and you are put under the care of Mr Mathew, then I can honestly tell you, he is an amazing surgeon who deserves to be knighted for his services to the NHS. So, Mr Mathew I just want to thank you for never giving up on me when I was low, for being a very quiet, but also personable Consultant, whom put me at ease and explained everything you needed to do and why. I do hope I am never in the situation of any more breaks but feel I should get a tattoo on wrist saying, ‘in event of further bone injury please transfer me to Chelsea and Westminster hospital under care of Mr Philip Mathew!!!!!

Mr. Mathew has performed trigger release surgery on 5 of my fingers. The fingers became painful at different times so I've had 5 operations. Before each operation the pain was excruciating all the time (even when the finger wasn't moving) and Tramadol didn't touch it - this was to the extent that I lost the use of the hand. After each operation, I got the use of the hand fully back and have been completely free of pain. The hand movement is excellent and I would hugely recommend Mr. Mathew who is a genuinely friendly, caring and nice person as well as being an awesome surgeon.

I had a third operation on my previously broken wrist/torn TFCC carried out by Mr Mathew. He carefully considered and discussed with me the technique to be used, as there were several different options. He was very metriculous in pre and post operative investigations to make sure the procedure was carried out absolutely right. Others had advised me against a third operation as it might cause more pain, more stiffness and decrease range of movement. However following surgery pain considerably decreased, stiffness did not increase and range of movement was not affected. I now have a stable wrist and noticeably less pain. I can lift up my daughter and load a car with camping gear, things that I thought I would not be able to do. I can also play the piano pain free. This has significantly increased quality of life. I consider myself very fortunate to have had Mr Mathew as my surgeon.

I had the great fortune to be operated on by Mr Mathew last week, just days before he left Queens Hospital for the Chelsea and Westminster. At our first consultation, he treated my husband and I with such consideration and kindness and gave us a totally detailed, frank and comprehensive appraisal of my injuries- I had broken both wrists as a result of a fall whilst playing tennis- and we were given options as to the way forward. I opted for surgery to realign the bones and saw Mr Mathew both before and after my operation- he reassured me that all had gone well - it was now 9pm in the evening and he had been in theatre with me for more than five hours. Unfortunately I will not see him again now, for my aftercare, but he has left a plan for my recovery and I had my first physio session yesterday. Every member of staff that we have encountered, in all associated departments, were highly complimentary about Mr Mathew ‘s outstanding skills. I cannot thank him enough for reconstructing my wrists - and look forward to being yet another of his success stories. He is a wonderful ambassador for his profession and the NHS.

Lovely gentleman but have tried on several occasions to contact his secretary and she does it even give you the courtesy of a reply.

Such a kind gentleman, who showed care and compassion towards my son, nothing but positives to say about him and his staff.

His secretary leaves a lot to be desired. Initially sent a clinic letter that needs a password, then sent a wrong password, finally got it opened in the end. Needed the latest clinic letter and now two emails a couple weeks apart later no replies at all. Trying to call her too. Does not answer the phone. Is she on a long holiday or something? Such poor service is not what I expect privately.
