I had been in a lot of pain with my right hip for many years and being past around many consultants with not real solutions because of my age (48) I managed to get my GP to get a referral to see Mr Heaton. After my first consultation Mr Heaton he put both myself and my wife at ease and assured use both he would be able to sort my problem out and for the first time I did feel confident that thing would get sorted. It turned out that I had to have a total hip replacement which at my age I didn't think would happen. On the day of my operation I was very nervous, because I suffer from sleep aponia and I would have to be epidural. when Mr Heaton can to see my and I told him of my nervousness again he arranged for the anaesthetist to come and see me straight away and the both them listen to my apprehensions. And again put my mind at ease. The team who were involved with my operation were fantastic and not once did feel worried. I was I hospital for 3 day and looked after brilliantly by all the staff there. I can not praise this man enough he did every he said he would do in such a professional, caring manor. And now I have been discharged feeling like I have my life back.

Quick diagnosis following referral from my GP.I had an arthroscopy and debrisment as a day case.I was reviewed as an outpatient and because my surgery had been completely successful I was discharged.I have been pain free and have full movement in my knee following the procedure.I might also add that my recovery was much quicker and more complete than I expected. I would have no hesitation in being referred to Mr Heaton or recommending him to other patients.

I'm 75 and needed a new left hip because all the cartilage had worn away, and I was getting less and less fit. I only met Philip Heaton briefly just before the operation, as he took over another surgeon's list at short notice. I've just seen him for a review 4 months after operation. I was conscious but sedated during the operation, a weird experience as I heard all the sawing and hammering. The care at Fitzwilliam was very professional and friendly, and I was out after 2 nights. The first 6 weeks were inconvenient and meant that my wife had to run around after me to some extent, but I was able to get out and about with a walker immediately. Pain was never a significant problem, and I wasn't using painkillers at all within a few weeks of the op. Since the first few weeks it has been rapid progress and I'm now walking freely for up to 3 miles a day, with only a bit of soreness which he tells me is only because the surrounding muscles got out of the habit of exercise in the years up to the op. I intend to start running gently soon.

I had a complete knee replacement performed by Mr Heaton in August at Grantham hospital. I try and keep myself fit,so after surgery I followed all the advice given, doing the exercises a number of times a day and walking each day. It was very painful for the first 6 weeks. I have been to see Mr Heaton today and he has shown me the X ray/scans of before and after surgery. If it had not been for him I would have been unable to walk. He listened to my concerns and reassured me regarding nerve damage etc. which takes a long time to heal. We discussed my other knee, but quite rightly, wants the one I have had done to be completely healed before a replacement knee operation on the other one. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Heaton for knee replacement surgery as I shall be seeing him again six months about my other knee.

Mr Heaton inspired confidence from the moment I met him. My GP had told me I was too young (at 63) for a hip replacement, but I was in increasing pain and knew that I was going to have to make big changes to my life if an operation was not possible. Mr Heaton took one look at my x-ray and assured me that he could operate within four months at the Fitzwilliam hospital, which was exactly what happened. Having never had an operation or been in hospital, apart from my two children's births, I was apprehensive, to say the least. Mr Heaton and his team put me at complete ease through their confidence that they were just going about their normal day's work. Before arriving at hospital, I had decided to have a general anaesthetic but Mr Heaton and his anaesthetist easily persuaded me that an epidural would be the best option, a decision I did not regret. I was sedated and unaware of anything until the operation was over, at which point I was soon in the recovery ward, drinking a cup of coffee. I will have to have a right hip replacement at some point, and very much hope that Mr Heaton will be available to carry this out. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this very kind, considerate and talented gentleman.
