My right hip gave me so much pain I could hardly walk. I always needed two sticks to walk, even around the house. Now after 8 weeks I am stick free and pain free. I cannot thank you enough for giving me my life back..

On meeting Mr. Heaton at my initial appointment I immediately felt comfortable and at ease .I explained to him that I was very nervous and very apprehensive about having my much needed Total Full Knee Replacement. He understood my concerns and with his very understanding manner put my mind totally at ease and he gave me the confidence to agree for the procedure to go ahead. On the morning of my operation he came to see me and again reassured me that everything would be fine. I had total confidence I was in good hands. When I was in the recovery room Mr. Heaton came to see me and told me the operation went very well . He has a great bedside manner and instills you with confidence and you have total trust in him. Mr Heaton fully explained, the procedure of my knee operation in a calm and caring manner. I would not hesitate in having Mr Heaton operating on my other knee should it need it in the future. I had minimal discomfort and followed the exercises given to gain strength in the knee which aided my recovery. I returned back to work after 4 weeks, taking it easy to start with and built up the length of walking, after 8 weeks I can feel the benefit with no pain or discomfort.

Before my operation for right hip replacement I was in pain walking/running and sometimes my leg would just give way. Also I walked with a stoop slightly leaning to one side. The specialist I saw( Mr P. Heaton) was very polite and caring. He explained everything very well and made sure I understood what was going to happen with the operation. After the operation I was well cared for not in too much pain and soon walking with crutches. After two weeks I did not need pain tablets and gradually I was walking around the house without crutches-- just needed them for balance when outside. Soon I was able to walk without aids for two miles and more.

Mr Heaton was thorough and told me why I needed a new knee, and although the recovery was a little longer than i thought it would be, every body is different for recovery. On a couple of occasions I was a little unsure of my knee, the swelling and pain i was getting, but i rang the hospital, spoke to a nurse, and the same day I saw my surgeon to make i was okay. Needless to say everything was fine, but if you have had nothing like it done before you don't want to expect. He was very understanding and said, if you any doubts give us a call. Now i have been discharged completely after 7 months, with no pain at all, and very good movement, only a small amount of numbness which he told me might take up to 18 months to go. One of my friends has asked me was it worth it, the answer is yes, otherwise I could have ended up in a wheelchair for life. I have always been told if a surgeon offers you surgery on whatever part of your body, its because you need - and i certainly needed it.
