Gareth Hill graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School, London in 1998. After his house jobs he spent six months at a base hospital in Outback Queensland, Australia before resuming his basic surgical training at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey. He undertook his higher orthopaedic training through the North-West Thames rotation, including appointments at Kingston Hospital, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. After attaining the FRCS(Trauma & Orthopaedics) he undertook a 12 month fellowship at the Perth Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Centre in Perth, Australia, with a particular focus on soft-tissue injuries of the shoulder & upper limb. He returned to the UK in 2010 to take up a locum consultant appointment at Frimley Park Hospital and has been a substantive consultant there since July 2011. He specialises in problems of the shoulder & elbow and he performs both open & arthroscopic surgery, in addition to joint replacement for arthritis. Common conditions treated include shoulder instability, frozen shoulder, impingement syndrome and rotator cuff tears, arthritis, tennis & golfer’s elbow. His research interest is in measuring the outcomes of surgical intervention with the aim of improving treatment for patients. His is married to Clare, has two sons and his interests include Triumph sports cars, skiing, sailing and the variable fortunes of the Welsh Rugby Union Team.
