I have had 1 knee operation and 2 hip replacements carried out at Winchester Hospital by David Hartwright. I found him easy to talk to, he listened and was informative of what to expect from the operations. The hip replacements have greatly improved my quality of life. I am completely pain free and can now walk unaided for as long as I want each day and potter safely in my garden. The booklet given prior to the 2nd hip replacement was good and I followed the pre op exercises and the post ones. I still do these exercises every week as the book says to for the life of the new hip joint. I would recommend anyone in pain to have these operations, they will really change your life for the better and ask to see David Hartwright - he is the best in my opinion.

Just under two years ago Mr Hartwright performed a total knee replacement on my right knee. From the initial consultations, preparations for the operation the op. itself & the follow up care has been excellent. His incision was very straight ( unlike many others I have seen) & he managed also to straighten my badly 13% valgus deformity which looked & felt awful. Rehab programme & follow up appointments at Winchester NHS hospital followed & two years on I was x-rayed to check all had healed well, which it had & followed by a phone call from Mr Hartwright himself to report the findings & check my current mobility etc & satisfaction level. This demonstrates his strong commitment to research, patient care & learning. I would therefore recommend Mr Hartwright very strongly to anyone considering hip or knee surgery.

My hip was dislocated at birth. Subsequently one leg was longer than the other and my gait was uneven. When I needed a hip replacement, I felt anxious how it would fit into my "wonky" frame, and just how I would walk after the operation. Mr Hartwright was encouraging, in that I wasn't his first such patient. Then post-surgery he gave guidance so I learnt to walk in a new way. I felt grateful for his attention to my particular needs.
