Where do I begin to praise this Doctor enough. Me, my husband and daughter attended the first meeting with Dr Hornung and at the end of that meeting the three of us all thought that I could be in no better hands. He explained very clearly my condition, the operation I needed and the post-op expectations. I was much more relaxed when I attended the Manchester Royal Infirmary last March for my bowel resection/stent removal operation after having that discussion. For Dr.Hornung to come and have a chat with me before I went down for my operation meant so much - to know I was in his hands made me so relaxed and just wanting to get the job done. He made numerous visits to me whilst I was on the ward and I was discharged earlier than expected. When we went for my checkup it was all good news and smiles and hugs all round. We - my hubby, daughter and family - can't thank Ben (as we have come to call him due to the wonderful relationship we felt we had) enough. Thank you Ben for giving me my life back allowing me to spend more time with my loved ones.

I saw Mr Hornung because I had cancer of the rectum; he was my surgeon. I met with him a couple of times before the operation and he explained everything in detail, ensuring that I fully understood everything about the procedure, including the risks. My tumour was situated very close to the outside thus there was a significant risk that Mr Hornung would need to remove my rectum and anus during the operation leaving me with a permanent stoma. The operation was scheduled for 2.5 hours. It took almost 7 because Ben worked very hard to ensure that all the tumour and the surrounding lymph nodes were removed without him having to remove my rectum and anus. Because of his hard work and care I am now cancer free and I have a temporary stoma which will be removed after around 6 months. I cannot thank Mr Hornung enough for his generosity of care and the will to do his absolute utmost for his patients. He is very approachable and easy to deal with and I could not recommend him highly enough to anyone who is in need of a surgeon, he is excellent.

I have been back home now for a few days and have had time to reflect on my experience at Manchester Royal Infirmary under the care of Mr Benjamin Hornung. Before my surgery Mr Hornung explained exactly what he intended to do. This was done using terms I fully understood and was much appreciated. Aftercare was excellent with Mr Hornung monitoring at all stages. This truly did inspire my confidence in Mr Hornung. So, In conclusion Mr Hornung, is not only an excellent surgeon, he also has many other skills that, to a patient, are as equally important. I found him to be caring, compassionate, attentive and very, very kind. Beyond impressed. Thank you.
