The care I received from Mr Kolias and all the team at Addenbrooke's was exceptional. The Nursing care, pre op and post op was brilliant and should be highly commended. My only constructive suggestion would be to improve the food, it was dreadful.

Mr Kolias is a first class incredible surgeon. He operated on my husband when another hospital thought my husband's brain tumour was inoperable. He is so incredibly caring and I would put my faith in him. From our first meeting with him before my husband's surgery we felt safe in his hands there is just something about him that puts a patient at ease and he explains everything carefully and concisely and obviously has to tell a patient the things that can go wrong. Once my husband was discharged after his surgery Mr Kolias us rang my husband at home!!! Unbelievable. Anyone who is a patient of Mr Kolias should be very pleased to have him as their surgeon.

Arriving at Addenbrooke's totally terrified, not knowing what was wrong with me. Mr Kolias and his team of specialists explained and also listened to me in my state of stress. We discussed options and we agreed that a non-operative management was right for me. This was indeed a great option as my subdural haematoma has almost gone without having put me through an invasive intervention. I would also like to thank all the different members of staff at Addenbrooke's who took great care of me.

Mr Kolias performed surgery to relieve my elderly mother's myelopathy. When recommending surgery he took care to make sure we understood the procedure and potential risks, and the likely clinical outcome (ie not a 'cure' but preventing further deterioration). Following further deterioration in her condition, my mother was subsequently admitted via A&E with the intention of surgery the following day. Due to COVID restrictions I was unable to accompany her. Mr Kolias called me the next day to let me know that surgery would be delayed 24h due to several urgent admissions over night. He took the opportunity to ask about plans for Mum's support post-surgery and I explained I had arranged extra help but was personally stretched as my husband had also been admitted that day with a broken leg. The surgery was successful and Mr Kolias visited Mum regularly on the ward. On one occasion I was visiting and he took the time to ask after my husband. I took this as a great example of active listening during one of what I assume are many calls he has to make, and of taking an holistic interest in the welfare of his patient and their family support network. I accompanied my mother to a recent follow up appointment in the clinic and he showed her the relevant scans of her head and neck and explained exactly what had been done in surgery. As a former nurse she was very interested in this detail and I thought it showed respect for my mother as an individual. He also asked again about my husband. From my interactions with Mr Kolias I have formed an impression of a skilled and knowledgeable surgeon who shows great empathy towards his patients and their families. I also appreciated his calm and patient demeanour in explaining medical details and risks in a way which helped my mum to make an informed decision about her surgery.

I recently underwent unexpected surgery to a pituitary tumour by the capable hands of Mr Kolias and his team. I was very confused beforehand and have since been notified by my family how incredible Mr Kolias was throughout the procedure and after, providing information and the reassurance needed. The knowledge and skill that Mr Kolias has demonstrated and the ability to explain to a person with limited medical understanding was very much appreciated. I seen Mr Kolias on multiple occasions after the procedure where he showed a lot of compassion and checked to see how my eyesight was doing regularly, and I received an email from him personally with confirmation that the tumour was benign. Thank you for everything!
