Angelos Kolias is a Consultant Neurosurgeon and Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Addenbrooke’s Hospital and University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK. He also holds an adjunct Professorship at Humanitas University, Milan, Italy. In 2023, he was awarded a Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He completed his neurosurgical training in Cambridge and received subspecialty fellowship training in anterior skull base/pituitary neurosurgery at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London. He holds a Masters (UCL, 2007) and a PhD in Clinical Neurosciences (University of Cambridge, 2016). His primary medical degree was awarded by the University of Athens, Greece in 2006. His clinical interests include surgery for brain tumours (special interest in skull base/pituitary surgery), neurotrauma, cerebrovascular disorders, neuroendoscopy, spine surgery, and general neurosurgery. He is internationally recognised for his research on traumatic brain injury and PET imaging for pituitary adenomas with publications in journals such as the NEJM, Lancet Neurology, JAMA Neurology, PLOS Medicine, Annals of Surgery, and Journal of Nuclear Medicine. He is the immediate past chair of the Young Neurosurgeons Committee of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), a member of the Global Neurosurgery Committee of the WFNS, and a member of the Research Committee of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. He is also committed to advancing Global Neurosurgery and advocating for the provision of high-quality neurosurgical care to all those who need it.
