I was assessed and then subsequently treated for ADHD by Dr Mashru. Though at times I felt he could be somewhat unprepared for my case individually, I found him to be an extremely knowledgeable and caring doctor. Before my ADHD treatment, I was trapped in an aimless life, existing day to day and without specific aims or goals for the future. I had dropped out of university and found myself lacking motivation and depressed. I had written myself off as bright, but unable to put it all together and destined for a life of wasted potential. Since my assessment and commencing treatment, I have discovered a renewed vigour and aptitude for my job and life. At work I have become highly focussed, I have wanted to do more and learn more. I have taken on additional responsibilities, tapping into a sense of ambition that I did not know I was capable of. I have also begun the process of applying to university again, confident in my ability to see it through this time. In short, it is difficult to overstate the positive impact that his care has had on my life!

Shyamal Mashru has been a brilliant doctor, throughout the entire call I felt like I was listened to and nothing was a silly answer. The questions asked were progressive to what I had said, which showed that they understood what I said. I couldn't have asked for a better session.

My experience with this diagnosis has been made all the less stressful through the amazing support from Dr Mashru. He has been kind, compassionate, shown empathy and great understanding of my ADHD and how this affects my life. I am forever grateful for this diagnosis and it has completely changed my life. There are unfortunately some misconceptions around ADHD in adults and this is unfortunate, however this process has made things a lot better. Thankyou.

Very personable, great communicator, direct, and it was refreshing to have someone who understood and didn't just fob me off. I didn't feel patronised at all. During my diagnosis appointment I felt listened to and validated and he was able to lead me to a few lightbulb moments which was very cathartic. I wasn't sure what to expect from my review video appointment. It would have been helpful to have advance notice of the questions he'd be asking (there was no guidance on what the 'titration review' would involve) and he appeared quite unprofessional, even appearing to be almost falling asleep at times as he looked sleepy and closed his eyes while I was talking.

Response from Dr Shyamal Mashru

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I will feedback to Psychiatry UK and suggest that they inform patients of the kind of questions to expect at the end of titration review. I apologise that you felt that I appeared sleepy in the consultation. I have had over 120 reviews and have never been informed this before. It is very hot today and the temperature in my room is reading at 30 degrees centigrade so perhaps that took a toll on me. I have never had that feedback before and I will be reflecting on this very seriously. Many thanks for your review, Dr Mashru
