I received excellent care from Mr Hatrick and his whole team when he operated on my shoulders last year. I would highly recommend him both as a surgeon and as a doctor who supports his patients throughout all aspects of their care.

I dislocated my shoulder, ruptured two tendons, had a 6 cm rotator cuff tear plus some nerve damage in an accident on 10 February 2017. Following consultation with Mr Hatrick at Royal Sussex County Hospital and some investigations, he operated to repair the shoulder on 9 March 2017 at Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. His (and his team's) care was excellent throughout and I am extremely grateful for his skillful surgical repair work. I have subsequently been having physiotherapy at Princess Royal Hospital and am recovering well.

From the first meeting I felt that Mr. Hatrick fully understood my problem - very painful right shoulder, especially at night and first thing in the morning. The organisation of appointments and hospital visits could not have been better. My operation was done quickly and very effectively to the point that less than three months later there is not much I can't do. When I can decorate the lounge in a day my wife will be happy. I can already get back under my old car and do whatever needs to be done. Mr. Hatrick's manner is easy and familiar and he puts you instantly at your ease. He listens and seems to know your concerns before you express them. I feel I could not have received better traetment. I raided the piggy bank to afford this operation. I can honestly say it was worth every penny.

I was assaulted and as a result I was left with major tear on my tendons in right shoulder. Mr Hatric adviced me to go for rotator cuff repair surgery. I was sceptical to start with but in a lots of pain and I realised that my shoulder will not heal itself. Today is 12 days after surgery and I'm recovering well, I don't have pain, and I am following excercise regime and Dr Hatrics advices to the letter. Very pleased with the results and looking forward for full recovery. I can not thank him enough for all he done for me- not stars will rate it- to me he is a Star! Much gretful - I'm able already feed myself and look after myself- of course being careful- I'm not ruining what this great man done. Great surgeon! Many Thanks. L. Torres

He undertook two fellowships in Sydney, Australia, sub-speacialising in shoulder and hand surgery.
The first fellowship was with Professor Michael Tonkin in the Department of Hand Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Surgery at the Royal North Shore Hospital. The second fellowship was with Professor David Sonnabend in the Department of Orthopaedics, Prince of Wales Hospital and also with Professor William Walsh in the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories in the same hospital.

In November 1999 he was awarded the Walter Mercer Gold Medal and the Arthur Edward Burton Memorial Prize for his performance in the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in Orthopaedic Surgery. In 2001 he was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, now the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH). He has developed a successful multi-disciplinary, ‘one-stop’ shoulder clinic based in Lewes Victoria Hospital with an on-site radiology colleague undertaking investigations as required and advanced physiotherapy practitioners reviewing patients alongside him in the clinic. He was the lead orthopaedic surgeon for the Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre from its opening in June 2006 until September 2009. From September 2009 until February 2013 he was the lead orthopaedic consultant for BSUH NHS Trust. He was a member of council for the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) from 2015-2018.
