My first appointment needed to be postponed due me contracting Covid19. I therefore needed to postpone surgery to a future date. Mr Hatrick and his team were extremely helpful, understanding and accommodating in re arranging for my shoulder surgery. Most grateful for all your hard work.

Mr Hatrick, has had to operate on me three times now and been fantastic each time, with the surgery he had to do. The last operation being a very difficult one and I really was sure I would be able to move my shoulder again but I can and not only can I move it, I have full movement which is absolutely amazing. He really is a brilliant surgeon.

I visited Dr Hatrick with a frozen shoulder that could not be successfully treated with just physiotherapy. He is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced doctor in this field. His diagnosis and proposed treatment proved to be successful and provided much needed relief from severe pain. I would highly recommend him.

The treatment provided by Mr Hatrick was exactly as I had hoped for after doing my research to find a shoulder specialist. Mr Hatrick was attentive and listened as I briefly explained about my condition and after an examination I received a quick diagnosis which was subsequently validated by an x-ray. The next stage of the procedure was explained and I am pleased to say everything went very smoothly and I am now completely pain free.

He undertook two fellowships in Sydney, Australia, sub-speacialising in shoulder and hand surgery.
The first fellowship was with Professor Michael Tonkin in the Department of Hand Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Surgery at the Royal North Shore Hospital. The second fellowship was with Professor David Sonnabend in the Department of Orthopaedics, Prince of Wales Hospital and also with Professor William Walsh in the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories in the same hospital.

In November 1999 he was awarded the Walter Mercer Gold Medal and the Arthur Edward Burton Memorial Prize for his performance in the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in Orthopaedic Surgery. The following year he was nominated as the British Orthopaedic Association ‘Young Ambassador’ to the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association at their annual congress.

In 2001 he was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, now the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH). He has developed a successful multi-disciplinary, ‘one-stop’ shoulder clinic based in Lewes Victoria Hospital with an on-site radiology colleague undertaking investigations as required and advanced physiotherapy practitioners reviewing patients alongside him in the clinic. He was the lead orthopaedic surgeon for the Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre from its opening in June 2006 until September 2009.
