Review of 4C Ward - SBH written by a patient
21st January 2018

The Radcliffe Thoracic Surgery ward has extremely high standards of cleanliness and patient care. The staff were great and very professional! The best part about my stay in the ward for my pleurodises was having an individual room - it made a huge difference to my well-being and vastly quickened my recovery. It meant I got space, peace and quiet to get sufficient rest. In the long-run, it means that I spent less time in hospital - it's super smart and more hospitals need to understand this principle of short-term vs. long-term thinking. It seems that this is certainly a key part of the ongoing NHS funding challenges. The staff communicated very well - I knew wjat to expect when and things were always explained to me. I even knew when shifts changed. Well done t

Review of Clinic 8 Pre assessment - SBH written by a patient
19th January 2018

My visit to Barts hospital and my pre admission clinic could not have been better. Linda Thurston did a thoroughly great job at explaining everything. She put my at ease and made feel well cared for. Waiting for an operation can be a worrying time but Linda made me feel i will be in very good hands.

I was well attended on the dot. The staff were warm and friendly. I cannot think actually if there is anything that need to be improved, maybe?

Review of 3A West Ward - SBH written by a patient
17th January 2018

I am ashamed that I cannot remember everyone’s name on the ward but I will certainly remember the fantastic approach and care given to me during my stay. The staff made me very comfortable at an anxious time and treat me and my family with dignity and respect whilst being both approachable and friendly. Without doubt their actions and care made a massive difference to my outcome and I am doing very well thanks to them all. The ward was clean and well maintained.

Review of 6D Ward - SBH written by a patient
11th January 2018

I received excellent medical care by all the nursing and medical staff. However, the catering wasn't always up to scratch and seemed to be very disorganised. The food was not very nice and I didn't eat much. The tea was disgusting and was so stewed I wouldn't drink it. My mum would buy tea from Costa for me and food from Sainsbury's and she would eat out after I was settled for the night (this was expensive). Luckily mum was able to afford this, but this may not be the case for anyone less fortunate. Mum also said that costa was very expensive £1.40 for tea and £4.65 for an egg sandwich is she believes making an outrageous profit out of people. We arrived on a bank holiday and shops and restaurants were closed in the hospital. There was no where on site to get a cup of tea. And at the weekend the cafe didn't open until 9 on Saturday and 10 on a Sunday the shops were also closed. Mum was up at 6am so it was a long time to wait for a cuppa. On one occasion mum was served grey scrambled egg from the cafe across the square and her table hadn't been wiped for 24 hours. She knew this because it was were she had sat the day before when I was having my operation and she remembered the stain. Subsequently she wouldn't eat there again. On the plus side, she had somewhere to stay and was allowed to be with me, but nothing else. She had no facilities to make a cup of tea or access to storing food eg: fridge. She wasn't offered a single cup of tea the whole time I stayed at the hospital (7 days). It upset me sometimes. It was easy to remedy too, she could have had access to the staff facilities on the ward. After all I suspect accommodating escorts is rare and wouldn't cause too much if any inconvenience to the staff on the ward if she was able to use the facilities.

I have been sat in this hospital since 1:30 this afternoon. It is now 5:45. I was seen very quickly for my ECG, but its gone rapidly down hill since then. I have spent: *90 minutes in clinic 1 waiting for a holter and a consultant to eventually be told I should still be in clinic 3 for the holter. Why was I sent away and why wasn't I fetched when I didn't show? *20 minutes in clinic 3 waiting for EACH *45 minutes back in clinic 1 waiting to see consultant *20 minutes queuing to hand over prescription *20 minutes waiting to have the prescription to be fulfilled Although your staff are great, your organisation is terrible!
