Review of Chedworth Suite written by a patient
11th May 2016

The medical and nursing Staff are superb, their caring and expertise is beyond reproach. The procedure I undertook was virtually painless with very little following discomfort. My only constructive suggestion is that the Clinic could do with some new equipment as patients have to share equipment thereby placing unnecessary extra work on the nursing Staff

Review of Cardiac Ward written by a patient
6th May 2016

The department seemed to be efficiently run, in general, and everything happened smoothly. The nursing staff were generally attentive and kind. The food was appetising and well presented, though perhaps not as "healthy" as it could be. I was not asked if I would have liked to see a chaplain and no provision was made for my spriritual needs. There was a "New Testament and Psalms" in my bedside cupboard - which was good. When I was taken to the angioplasty suite I was not told that there would be a substantial wait there and that it would be OK to bring my mobile phone with me. When I got there it became clear that out-patients were allowed to have a friend or relative with them, pending the procedure; but this was not made known to me either. I was somewhat worried that the person who was due to visit me on the Cardiac ward at 15:00 would turn up and just go away when they found that I was not there. When I asked about this, I was told that she would be redirected to the angioplasty suite and this is what happened; however if I'd had my mobile phone with me I would have told her what had happened and she might have come in earlier to keep me company. There was no need for me to have been transported to the angioplasty suite as soon as I was, as I had to wait while two other patients were treated and while the surgeaon/consulatant had lunch. [In fact I was glad that I was taken up when I was as this meant that I met a friend of mine who was in for the same proceedure as myself and we had a good long chat; but this was purely coincidental.] The wait to be discharged seemed excessive. I was told quite early on Friday that I was OK to go home that day. My medicines were delivered from the Pharmacy before lunch (I think) but I had to wait until 15:40 to be discharged. The other gentleman in the sideroom whioch my bed was in had a similar experience. This means that at least two beds were "blocked" for about four hours, which seems inefficient.

Review of Dept of Critical Care (CGH) written by a patient
6th May 2016

The department seemed to be efficiently run and everything happened smoothly. Patients who were much sicker than me seemed to be treated in a compassionate and gentle manner. The nursing staff were generally very attentive and kind. A (Muslim?) nurse who always wore a head-shawl was particularly considerate and friendly. The food was appetising and well presented, though perhaps not as "healthy" as it could be. One junior doctor who took an "arterial blood gas" sample from another patien exhibited a somewhat blaze bedside manner. He basically siad "this is going to hurt a lot: tough, it has to be done" and when the patient groaned he didn't seem to care. A minute after taking the sample he was joking and laughin with other staff members. I was not asked if I would have liked to see a chaplein and no provision was made for my spriritual needs. I was not kept as well informed as I would have liked regarding my transfer to the Cardiac ward. I was told that the blood test used to determine the severity of my heart-attack had a score of less that 100 (I think 48) and that this indicated that the attack was quite minor. When I saw a consultant on the Cardiac Ward he said that the score was "in the hundreds". I presume that this was from a later test. It would have been good to have been informed of this as soon as it was known as it was a shock to hear it after being told that the attack was quite minor. When the man in the next bed died, there seemed to be more of a "mustn't talk about this and hide it from the other patients" taboo in opperation than any concern for the dignity of the deceased or any recognition that other patients might have wanted to pay their last respects. One nurse was so concerned to draw my curtain so that I shuldn't see what was happening (this ONLY served to make me aware of what was happeing!) that shew spoke quite shaply to me.

Review of Cardiac Ward written by a patient
6th May 2016

I was impressed by the speed and efficiency of my treatment from first contact with my GP, the ambulance service, A&E and angioplasty almost immediately on arrival. One or two minor points: i) electric light button by bed did not work ii) delay of a day in showing me how to access the radio stations

Review of West Block Outpatients written by a patient
3rd May 2016

l attend the hospital for arthritis and my appointment letter shows the Whitting suite however after walking up to the 3rd floor the receptionist there, who could not have cared less if she tried, passed me to man to explain that for the second time the clinic was in A&E on the ground floor. l do not know why a sign or some guidance could not be put out or if the appointment letter could say report to A&E, which i will do in future and ask where the clinic is that day.
