Review of Abbey Ward
1st August 2024

The improvement he has had within therapy, started off using a Mackworth and ended up using WZF. The therapy team were very helpful and had a good laugh with them.

Suggested improvements
I can’t see a way of improving with the therapy, maybe do more of different exercises

Everyone so kind and compassionate, apart from one member of staff who was very abrupt and not very thoughtful.

Suggested improvements
Brilliant care. Maybe more staff.

I have received fantastic care and support from the team and each staff member, without exception, has been caring, supportive and expert in their field. I have seen them patiently deal with very challenging situations and and I can’t praise the staff enough

Suggested improvements
Apart from increasing the size and capacity of the unit, nothing thank you

The waiting time was quite good we weren’t kept waiting for too long, the nurse I saw was really nice and the overall care I received was very good.

Suggested improvements
I wasn’t really given much information about what I can and can’t do I was just referred to another hospital.

Didn’t have to wait too long. 1 1/2 hours to be seen and about 20 minutes for an X-ray. Which I felt was reasonable. Rather go to Abingdon than the JR for A and E.

Review of Abingdon Minor Injuries Unit
30th July 2024

The staff at the Unit were excellent. I went in for a fall, I couldn't walk or put any weight on me left leg. My left foot was very swollen and painful. The paramedic inspected my leg and foot and ordered an x-ray which was done very promptly. I was told I had no broken bones which was good news. Since I couldn't walk I asked if I should get some crutches or a bandage to compress the painful foot. They said I didn't need any of those, and that I should try to walk. The problem is that I really couldn't walk on the injured leg. I was on my own so I called a taxi to take me home and had to literally walk on my knees to get up the stairs of my house. Once home, I ordered a pair of crutches and an ankle support bandage.

Suggested improvements
I do not have any complaint about the staff at the Abingdon Unit, on the contrary they were efficient and very proactive. My issue is with the lack of information that I was given or not given. My complaint is more about the protocol that the NHS follows for sprained ankles and falls. It seems that no crutches or bandage are required but in my case I had to purchase both so I could improve my condition. It's been a week and I am still at home unable to walk for longer than 1 minute due to pain. I am on crutches and with a supportive ankle bandage. I did search online to get some medical guidance on how to improve my injury but sure, maybe the NHS could have given me that information when I visited the Unit?
