The staff at The Holly were very friendly from the lady who makes the appointments to the receptionists, and all the nursing staff.
Extremely patronising staff who belittled my problem and my pain. I was told by both my pharmacist and my GP than my insect bite from abroad had become infected. I could also clearly see that it was infected, as my leg had become swollen and oddly coloured. The doctor and nurse at the A&E check-in scoffed when they saw my wound, barely listening to what I was saying and they said it wasn't infected and I didn't need to wait to be seen and should go home. I demanded to be seen anyway, and the second doctor that saw me immediately said it was infected and I needed antibiotics.
The staff also loudly repeated my personal details so everyone in the waiting area could hear them - including my full name, address, phone number and emergency contact. I could also hear them discussing other patients and their personal details and this is a clear violation of confidentiality. Disgusting staff mannerisms.
The communication between staff needed a lot of improvement. My dad was called and asked to do different things by different doctors who then became frustrated with him, even though the problem was in their communication. For example, one nurse called him to take his blood, and another nurse called him to take his temperature/blood pressure but became frustrated with him for going to have his bloods taken. My dad was also told by one nurse that he could go out to make a phone call as he would not be called for a while; another nurse then told him off for going outside and almost missing his name being called. This was unfair on my dad because he was only following instruction. The staff need to communicate better between each other. This has happened on multiple visits to Whipps Cross A&E
50% terrible care. Lost results. Mixed advice. Little/no support from night staff. Catering staff extremely rude.
Self discharged at midnight as couple opposite taking drugs (speed amphetamine). Night staff refused to move me and baby to another bed or room even though there were many empty beds and rooms. Security staff allowing man to enter the hospital repeatedly after smoking marijuana and returning to the ward with strong smell. Felt very vulnerable and unsafe. Night staff lazy, sitting on computers not helping ladies or doing the rounds. No assistance with baby and bags when trying to discharge. No follow up to complaint about drugs in the ward.
Sheets not changed for 48 hours after cesarean. Night staff handed me sheets to change the bed myself 48 hours after cesarean.
Doctors got me to return for baby blood tests saying they needed to be repeated on day 5. In fact, they had not carried out day 1 tests correctly so were trying to cover themselves.
Doctors at bedside talking over each other when coming for different reasons e.g. hearing test, blood test, paediatrician etc chaos.
Whole ward chaos. Unbearable heat (33 degrees) on hottest days of the summer.
Some staff kind and caring and helpful but not consistent and too many bad factors.
Would not recommend the Mulberry Ward to anyone.
Theatre and staff downstairs very good. Like a different hospital!
all staff all good & helpful
I NEEDED TO CANCEL A APPOINTMENT THE LETTER REQUESTED THAT I PHONE THE TEAM TO ACTION THIS . I WAS NUMBER TWO ON THE WAITING CALL FOR TWENTY MINUTES FOLLOWED BY A FURTHER TWENTY FIVE MINUTES CALL WAITING AS NUMBER ONE I PUT THE PHONE DOWN AS THIS WAS NOT A FREE PHONE NUMBER . I CAN UNDERSTAND HOW APPOINTMENTS ARE NOT MET WHEN PHONE CALLS ARE NOT ANSWERED DONT BLAME THE PATIENTS WHEN APPOINTMENTS ARE MISSED LOOK AT WAITING TIMES FOR CANCELLATIONS TRY PHONING AND SEE WHAT RESPONSE TIMES ARE LIKE
I am a wheelchair user and was accompanied by my mum who is not a wheelchair user. The way the chairs were laid out in the waiting room I feel could be improved as I could only sit with my mum when she was positioned at the end of a row. Unfortunately, this is where most patients choose to sit leaving lots of space in the centre of the rows.
If a gap could be created in the centre of the row, it would be easier for all the patients especially people with reduced mobility, buggies or wheelchair users.
The care during and after birth were amazing!
It would be great to have continuity of care during pregnancy..
My only complaint was we had a long wait.
Dr Shahid made me feel very reassured, confident and safe before and after my operation. I felt so lucky to have a doctor like her take care of me and I was not that nervous for my operation, knowing she will be the one doing it! I think having this positive attitude actually makes a difference to recovery and makes you feel physically better! Thank you so much to her and all the other staff at Whipps Cross Hospital who were amazing, I will never forget it!
