Review of Emergency Care Centre SGH

My experience of having visited A&E was a positive one.

Suggested improvements
My only criticism is when someone goes to reception to book in, everyone sat around can hear the conversation.

My was very anxious about my sons health, and the nursing and medical team were amazing with easing these anxieties. My son is only 11 weeks old and to know health professionals were promptly looking into my concerns was reassuring. The new layout was welcoming, and my son despite being so young loved looking at the colourful walls. The two nurses who looked after my son was so good with me and him. They’re a credit to the hospital.

Suggested improvements
With my son being so young; it would have been helpful to have a cot bed at hand. Like the ones you see on a maternity ward as I had to place him on the adult bed which obviously isn’t well protected if he were to roll off, obviously I was with him the entire time so I could monitor it anyway - but with wait times sometimes being long it would of been handy with my son being tired.

I am a vegan who eats limited carbohydrates, my food choices were limited to toast or jacket potato with a spoonful of beans and a small tub of salad, there weren’t even any healthy choices of food in the hospital restaurant, that were vegan. I asked for fruit but was told there wasn’t any. Your staff were all amazing however.

Suggested improvements
Better food choices. I would have paid. A&E was busy as was the Stroke ward which is where I should have been admitted. I spent over 12 hours in a reclining chair, (until 4am). There were definitely people in more need of a bed however it transpired that I have two disc bulges in my neck, curling up and trying to sleep in that chair would not have helped the issue. If you are expecting people to sleep in those chairs you should consider some supported beck pillows

Thus hospital is a total disgrace patients are moved from 1 dot to another and have to give same information over and over. Waiting times horrendous 6hrs is not acceptable to anyone and then sent home only to come back next day going over same situation at each dpt

Suggested improvements
Employment more staff especially in new detail a/e as not enough staff to sort problems like ours which has been ongoing now 4yrs

I brought my 3 year old son in, he was crying in pain. Luckily the pain started to ease, as we waited a hour and a half and wasn't even seen by triage. I would hate to think if his pain stayed at that level and we were left all that time.

Suggested improvements
Some sort of communication. Maybe checking no-one in the waiting room is crying in pain. There was empty cups and food on the floor. We had zero communication. I had given my son laculose and it must of started working as his pain eased a lot.
