The receptionist, (a mature lady with blonde hair) was friendly and compassionate. I was seen reasonably quickly by the triage nurse who was lovely, in fact all the nurses I saw were confident, calm and very reassuring, especially as I was highly anxious. After a wait of three hours, (not too bad considering how busy it was) I was seen by Dr Bilal Ahmed. As previously mentioned, I was in a state of extremely high anxiety and panic. Dr. Ahmed went above and beyond his duty in calming me. As well as treating my physical symptoms, he took time to explain everything and reassure me. In short by the time I left A&E, with medicines in hand, I felt so much better. It was so refreshing to be treated with compassion and dignity, as my past experience with dr's has sometimes left me feeling like I was being silly or a nuisance. My problem was very real to me, even if the physical problem was being made worse by my anxiety. However at no time was my anxiety/panic disorder trivialised and because of this, I was eventually able to rationalise my thinking. I am so glad that YDH do not treat patients with mental health problems with the stigma that unfortunately still seems to exist in some areas of the medical profession. Some GP's could learn a thing or two from the staff of YDH. Thank you so much, an extremely grateful patient.
