I was transferred from the JR to Witney on Linfoot Ward after a fall in 2023. I was greeted by one of the Ward Sisters, Sally. I was originally by the bay door but was moved to a bed space by the window as it had a hoist which I needed. My bed was comfortable and with an appropriate bed and mattress. The staff were busy but always answered bells as soon as they could. Personal care was excellent. Bedding was changed daily and you could ask for more blankets if needed. The food was edible and was quite good in parts, but I learnt to avoid fish fingers! The final meal of the day was a soup, optional, a choice of sandwiches, with crisps, and dessert. Hot drink. On the whole my care was good. I was prescribed morphine at the JR ( which I was unaware of), I had bad hallucinations whilst at Witney caused by the morphine. It was stopped eventually. I was on a special pump and dressing for my pressure wound, as I couldn't see it I had no idea what it was like, when the dressing was changed , photos were taken to chart progress. The only things which could have been improved on was my physio. I was given a leaflet of exercises and left to get on with them. My right leg and foot were awkward as I discovered that I had partial neuropathy on my right foot so I couldn't tell if I was doing them right. I had no support from a physio assistant to help me do them. I also needed a chair assessment by an occupational therapist but I didn't get one and consequently had to sit in a chair which was uncomfortable and caused my right foot and leg to become extremely uncomfortable. This had a knock on effect as when I was discharged home I had a similar chair which I couldn't use. I was also discharged home with an inappropriate hoist which couldn't be used, nor did I have the correct bed or mattress. I wasn't asked anything by the OT assistant if I needed a special bed or mattress, or even a chair.Because of not having the correct chair, I haven't been able to get out of bed for nearly a year. I was also discharged home without being offered or asked if I would need a wheelchair. I would like say that Tim , Ward Clerk, was extremely helpful and managed to find some information for me.
