I explained I was in extreme pain but administration told me to book with my own GP - it was only through my insistence that I was seen by the practice nurse - the nurse could see my discomfort who consequently arranged for me to see the out of hours GP - he was able to do an initial diagnosis and via prescription lower my pain - the out of hours GP was excellent and his action lowered my pain until I was able to see my own GP on an urgent basis a few days later

Listen, assess and escalate as necessary - bottom line, improve patient care - it was obvious to anyone I could hardly walk - we followed the guidance on the website which is clearly misleading if your going to pick and choose what an individual deems is an emergency
