Review of A & E

The dr was very good, and some of the nurses. The triage nurse was efficient but coldly indifferent, the X-ray technologist was the same, and one of the nurses barely looked at me when calling me in for treatment and used one word to tell me what to do. Hardly welcoming. Staff were sitting around doing nothing. They could have been better employed picking up dirty linen, bringing water, tea whatever to the patients. I was pleased with the dr and some staff.

This was my experience

Suggested improvements
This visit to A & E is the best I have experienced, I was treated and discharged in 2 hours, all my previous experience of A & E I had to wait at least 6 hours before seeing a doctor, despite suffering from cancer and being a high risk patient

Staff were very caring. I was given pain relief and a quiet space to wait on arrival and was then seen and assessed quickly.

My 1 year old daughter was brought into A&E by ambulance along with myself and my 5 year old son. All the staff were so kind and caring to us all. The nurses were particularly good at entertaining my son m, engaging with him and giving him food and drinks which was lovely. Thank you.

Review of A & E

The staff on reception and the nurse who saw me initially were all very good. Attentive, listened to what I said and took appropriate action. Unfortunately I had to repeat everything again to the A&E doctor who didn’t listen properly to what I said and often repeated inaccuracies back to me in my medical history. She ignored the symptoms that were of most concern to me (spiking heart rate) and fobbed me off suggesting the chest pain was ingestion and to try gaviscon. Whilst also telling me to mask the symptoms with pain relief. Whilst I has some reassurance that I was not at any immediate risk, there was no care or attention as to what I should do next. I appreciate A&E departments are busy it felt like she just wanted me out of the door

Suggested improvements
The A&E doctor should read the notes from the nurse, practice taking blood (I have 2 big bruises on my arms where she kept messing it up), learn to listen to all symptoms rather than ignoring those that don’t fit a weak diagnosis and think about what a patient actually needs - she thought telling me there was nothing wrong with me was a good thing but when I’m experiencing chest pain, breathlessness and heart rate spikes on a regular basis, her telling me that everything is fine and that “it’s a good thing” doesn’t help
