1st December 2022

I have been on this ward 3 times since May 2021 for operations and my opinion of this ward has always been the same. I suffer from a spinal condition with nerve damage which requires catheterisation of the bowel and bladder and therefore have to be bladder catheterised during stays. Never once have I had any issues with my bag being emptied and I have never come out of hospital with infections or bed sores. The staff make sure that meals or snacks are available and that we are well-hydrated at all times. This is an extremely busy ward and the staff are still friendly, well-caring, and nothing appears to be too much trouble. They are ready to reassure and answer any questions no matter how small. Having been on other wards in the past, I wish they could take a leaf out of how this ward operates. I cannot find any faults at all. The staff deserve five stars. They are all outstanding. I could understand it if this was a one off but, as mentioned above, this level of care has been maintained on all three occasions. I would like to point out that I have no family or friends working on this ward so my opinion is unbiased. The other thing to point out is that never have I heard any of the staff calling other members of staff when they have gone home, which is not the case on other wards and very unprofessional. Neither have I ever heard them calling and discussing patients loudly, which again I have heard on other wards and which I am sure also breaches confidentiality. The level of praise covers all members of staff from the cleaners upwards. A special thanks to Norma who makes every patient feel less nervous on entering the ward. She is very helpful and always has a smile.

Suggested improvements
I really do not think that there could be any improvement as I think during the current climate they are excelling on this ward, despite staff shortages and being extremely busy and in most cases understaffed.
