Good staff members. Need more garden time. Food is good. An extra staff member to prioritize leaves for patients, so they get out more often.

My experience is predominantly as an outpatient. The psychiatric staff do not take their patients seriously and typically fob them off with trainee doctors. On the rare occasions one does get to see a qualified psychiatrist, they are typically disinterested and unhelpful. No care is offered beyond what one's GP can give, but the psychiatric staff typically have a much more dismissive and contrary attitude. The hospital does not bother with important elements such as care plans or any other support, and typically makes it the patient's responsibility and blames them if things are not going well. I have had experiences as an inpatient, and their staff are friendly enough, but not trained, and again, the psychiatrists take no responsibility. I have also been delivered to the hospital numerous times by the police, and the experience is the same: friendly staff, but no treatment and no care plan. I have attempted to complain about the appalling standard of care before, but the hospital managers will do everything in their power to ignore, side-track, delay, minimise and obfuscate any progress. An absolutely dreadful hospital. Avoid if you have the choice. Sadly, as a psychiatric patient, you don't have the choice.

My suicidal daughter was taken here by the police, where they did nothing to reassure her, left her in wet clothes . They said they 'didn't treat cases like this' and the police had to be called to remove her . Disgusted.

total nightmare exclusion after filing a complaint, refused an assessment for a condition even after i had a diagnosis did nothing knowing, after going through hell over that almost lost my housing, was suicidal, sent in a receipt for the gas i was going to use and they just let me go ahead and do it, that happened twice, even i presented them with proof of this claimed both that they had tried to help me, and that they had had no contact with me which no makes no sense... as far as i can tell the doctor involved was quite willing to let me die rather than admit he had made a mistake, and roped everyone else in....

I was here for about 12 to 18 months. I am not sure if all the social workers were quite as bad as Simon Lewis but from personal experience there were a lot of times where he was meant to visit me at my house and never turned up. Looking back now, I think I should have asked for another social worker. Someone who was not quite as incompetent. They are not very friendly here and are often very patronising. If you can go elsewhere then that is my advise.

This place is proof that the UK has got a long way to go in regard to mental health. The physiatrists are totally incompetent! The social workers here from 2011 onwards are an absolute disgrace IMO. If this place gives you a social work there is no point in accepting as they are absolutely no use whatsoever! And they know it! Also, my confidentiality was broken by one of the nurses that works here. I am surprised this place has not been shut down and not surprised at the terrible reviews people have given to it.

As a mental health patient I was treated like an idiot, despite having higher academic qualifications than the staff caring for me. Despite their age (or lack of it) they were generally patronising, and generally assumed that shouting was the way to exert authority.

I recently spent three months on Wintle Ward at this hospital. Most of the staff were surly, patronising and uncaring. It felt as though the patients were a nuisance, getting in the way of the staff's important work. There was no distinction between qualified psychiatric nurses and untrained healthcare assistants. This made it very difficult to know who to trust. The one notable exception was the Occupational Therapist who cared, listened and did her best to help. The food was largely inedible. There was no choice, and the main course always consisted of something heavy, stodgy and meat based. As a vegetarian, this was totally unacceptable, but when I asked for a vegetarian option I was offered dry bread. Luckily I have a wonderful family who brought me in a salad based meal every evening. I lost 3stone during my stay at the hospital - but no-one noticed except my husband. I was denied contact with the consultant psychiatrist who had been treating me for several years, but was transferred to a doctor I did not know and who did not know me, simply because my doctor only sees male inpatients, and this new doctor only sees female inpatients. WHAT CENTURY ARE WE IN?? I had a brilliant rapport with my original doctor, built up over the years. The new doctor came across as cold and unfeeling - but, as I said, we didn't know each other. Eventually I discharged myself.
