Review of Allen ward written by a patient
22nd May 2017

The staff are very friendly and are doing their very best to care for our needs, they try to make themselves available for any of our concerns. Improvement wise, they really are understaffed so in the circumstances the care is very good, the care of the ward would be excellent if only the nhs trust provided more staff

More communication between staff and patients would help towards the smooth running of the ward

My initial care when I was first admitted was a very frightening experience - very scary and I only remember coming and being conscious in an isolated room so didn't feel safe at all, very frightening. Overtime though the staff all were very helpful and trust build up. Continuity of staff would help with these experiences. Didn't feel like I was treated with dignity and respect.

Very traumatic admission but ongoing care has been goo. Initial room felt like a torture chamber. Staff are generally very helpful.

Short staffed all the time. I do not think leave should be removed as punishment as the patients behaviour can escalate which ultimately makes the nurses job harder and causes unrest and a bad atmosphere in the ward.

I have never approached them for anything but they will not stop contacting me and I don't agree to what they order me to do and I don't need it. On 3/5/17 Rachael Cathrew tried blackmailing me into seeing a doctor I don't need. This is criminal. She also seemed not really in touch with the truth and I didn't get my voice heard. Dr Bale and Dr Shaw decided in 2011 that they wouldn't deal with complaints because complaints in their opinion are a syptom of mental illness. They even refuse to answer questions. And they force feed their captive audience. This place should close although Dr Merson says he doesn't know how I will get that to happen. And I bet he wouldn't want to stay there. I am a member of the public.
