Everything was good from staff or doctors.
Very good care and attention to detail. Excellent checking procedures. A lot of waiting around.
The kindness of staff made my stay less anxious.
Bedside care was good i.e. doing things for you, the staff didn't stop.
Reliability of the newspaper trolly!!
The are at hand at all times.
The nursing staff all seemed to be very knowledgeable about the required treatment. Most of them were very good, helpful and friendly, and treat me with respect and dignity. There were however one or two who didn't seem to have a great bedside manner/attitude towards patients which is unfortunate when you are not feeling too great - I realise they are all very busy but a smile goes a long way and costs nothing!
Regarding the food, are 3 courses really necessary when you are in bed/chair all day - why not just offer 2 courses of slightly better quality/improved nutritional value?
Thanks.
I attended A&E on the night of 3rd April Staff were very nice and appeared to be working to the best of their ability in a very busy unit . After a 3 hour wait I was eventually seen and treated well by staff . But the whole unit and system was failing with long delays and people in corridors waiting for beds . The cubicle I was taken in to had dirty open sharps boxes with blood on , the notes of a patient seen the day before on a table , bits of tape were stuck to the table and bits of tissue and wrappers thrown on the floor. I saw little evidence of hand washing by staff and patients had no opportunity to wash . Some years ago I contracted MRSA at The Vic and the healthcare commission became involved , I had hoped that lessons had been learnt , but may be not !
Transferred when chest ward needed more beds,to cardiac day case which became a ward, staffed by nurses from other wards, no continuity, not bathed for 8days, sore broken bottom on discharge... No one ever checked my skin. Locum consultant excellent got a diagnosis -bronchiectasis- and he took time to explain things to my daughter and I.
It is a pity it took an outside Dr to address my medical needs. No Vic staff did anything about my personal care.
