No xray facilities - had to go to South Shields.
professional care.
After a short wait to register at reception, I had barely sat down before I was called into see a nurse practitioner. She was polite, efficient and quickly diagnosed the problem, and issued me with some antibiotics. All in all, I was in A&E for not much more than half an hour - I was very impressed with the speed and efficiency of the service.
As this is the main A&E in the Durham area where else would I be likely to recommend?
The two Nurse Practitioner's and the Radiologist who tended to my injury were very kind and made me feel well cared for, they explained their findings fully which I found reassuring.
The department was quite clean, however you could enforce the ban on smoking outside of the main doors at the department, as the wind was blowing into the building when I was there, and as a none smoker I found this very unpleasant.
This was due mainly to two alcoholics sitting beside the doors whom the security guard had ushered outside, but had appeared a little reluctant to deal fully with the situation, this was 11.30ish on the Sunday morning. There was also a patient there smoking!!
Having this kind of situation outside the main door I feel could be a little intimadating to older patients attending the A&E and it was difficult to get adequate access or egress, especially for me as I was on crutches when I left.
helpful, friendly staff who kept me informed of the procedures.
A&E, observation, and ward 3 all very helpfull.
I wish to thank the staff nurses and the rest of the staff on the ward for their kindness and thoughtfulness to my wife and self.
many thanks.
