Review of Ruby Ward
6th December 2023

Some staff are more a tentative than others & more caring than others, sometimes you get ignored when you knock on the office door which can be a little degrading but depends which members of staff are in the office. Some staff are lazy & others are not & some know how to treat people how they want to be treated & some don't care about your needs & can be quite rude at times. The activity room is excellent & the staff are also very very nice & great fun, they talk to you as an equal & treat you as a human & very caring to your needs, they are patient & overall in my books give everyone something to look forward to each day & put a smile on your face, without them the day can be very very boring .The activity staff are fun loving & they definitely go out their way to occupy & stimulate your mind with activities.

Suggested improvements
i feel the communication between patients & staff can be improved dramatically. Personally i arrived on a Friday evening & left alone until the following day & it was the patients that showed me how things work & told me the do's & don'ts, what i can do & what im not allowed to do. You are very much in the dark of how the system works here until you get talking to patients. The rules differ also, depending on who's shift ie some staff kick you out the TV room at night & tell you to go to bed & some will tell you can watch tv all night if you want, some say you are not allowed to shut the tv room door & some tell you to shut the door because it can be noisy. So there's sometimes no happy medium.

Review of Ruby Ward
28th November 2023

The nurses did listen once I started raising complaints. The doctors were good, once I was able to explain about her Parkinson’s disease and the side effects of her meds.

Suggested improvements
Systems, my wife went without her Parkinson’s meds for a day because the system said she had no prescription. I emailed them over. She was put in isolation after being surprised by a staff member and lashed out. I was unable to visit. She spent 4 days in urine stained clothes. I had to bring in incontinence pads. She was restrained leaving bruises and hand marks on her ankles which was denied. Her meds were often late leaving her frozen. She spent one night on the floor after falling and being unable to raise help. She was dragged across the floor by one arm after asking for help.
