This was my 5th visit to the Medical Day Unit for administration of chemotherapy and, as before, it was excellent. I was cared for by Ashley who is exemplary in her compassion, skill and knowledge. She balances clinical expertise with great humanity and kindness. The unit was, as always, immensely busy, yet the staff take time with each patient and attend to them as individuals. I am always impressed by the calm, efficiency and sense of purpose no matter how many patients there are and whatever the pressures. As well as the outstanding clinical care from Ashley, it is important to mention the support staff in the Unit who make the experience so much better: the Receptionists are unfailingly warm, welcoming and helpful, the healthcare assistants are cheerful and anticipate needs, the cleaning staff keep the unit as hygienic as it must be, and the catering staff offer welcome refreshments with friendliness and humour. It really is a place where I feel I can trust staff and I believe they deserve all the praise possible for what they do.
