Whilst my consultant was outstanding, my experience on Stafford ward was not good at all. I was mostly ignored by staff, given half pieces of information or nothing at all. I felt that the NHS stamped on my file might have reduced the priority I was given at every level. On admission, I asked when I might be going down. I was told they would come back and tell me once the list was up. That person never returned. Someone else popped in saying they were coming in a minute to admit me. that person never returned. I waited four hours before someone finally came to get me. Had I been nervous, the wait would have been excruciating, no-one checked me at all. Any member of staff I did see, with the exception of my consultant, simply sat completing forms. I had no conversation except with the porter who showed me to my room first thing. I even had to find my own way out of the rabbit warren of corridors at the end on my own, feeling a little wobbly as it was my first time on my feet since the op.
