Emergency eye care via A&E is a joke. Having been referred urgently by an optometrist who saw RCVO on OCD I was left waiting 10 hours only to be sent home with no treatment by a registrar. I had to go to my GP to escalate the need for treament to avoid more loss of sight. Eventsaully seen in ophthalmogy AMD clinic and started VEGF injections. After 3 an optometrist discharged me with no more treatment and monthly OCDs. I had to complain to get any options for further treatments and was then put on 2 monthly injections. Complete lack of any plan for how long, any reviews by ophthalmologist and worst of all no contact in the event of a deterioration in my condition which has now occurred and I have had to resort to PALS to try to speak to someone as no one answers any number I am put through to in the eye hospital.

I waited almost three hours to be seen by doctor, not even in his room.when I asked to re arrange my appointment, was told by receptionist, doctor was busy. Because of delays in my treatment I now have only left eye working. STIll WAITING FOR APPOINTMENT. Yours. R. Hale

Excellent level of treatment, kindness and care. Streamlined, too, I saw the wonderful nurse when I arrived at 9.45 and left, having met with my consultant, by 11am. Everyone is reassuring and kind, whilst being outstandingly effective in their diagnosis and treatment. Thank you so so much. There are no words to convey my gratitude.

Fantastic care today at the Eye Hospital, friendly team, thorough investigations and a clear explanation of my symptoms. Couldn’t ask for much more. Thank you.

I was diagnosed with AMD two years ago. Because of Covid, it was too late too save my central vision. However, 13 injections later, I still have a check up every 4 weeks. I had to make an unscheduled trip to the eye hospital’s A&E and the clinician was able to make a link with other health issues. I give a huge ‘thank you’ to both the clinical and front of house staff for their kindness and professionalism.

Recently underwent day surgery br Mr. Lui and his team. He is humorous and caring, and the results are proving to be excellent. After many years of wearing glasses for severe myopia I shall soon only need them for reading, after lens were inserted and cataracts removed. Can never thank them enough plus the excellent nurses, one of whom called me a taxi, and waited with. My grateful thanks to you all.

I am a 72 year old active retired Soldier. I have had a retinal "tear" problem since end of May 2018. Following a surprise diagnosis during a routine Opticians appointment I was referred for treatment to the Ophthamology Department at the Sussex Eye Hospital. My first impression was a rather tired "unrestored/dingy " building off the Eastern Road opposite the Brighton and Sussex main hospital building.( presently undergoing an extensive rebuild.) Following attendance at the Ophthalmic A/E department I was seen and quickly referred to Mr Robert Purbrick (Ophthalmology Surgeon). Within 10 days I had been treated and discharged. Excellent care and treatment. NHS at its best. Many thanks from an extremely grateful patient.

I can not suggest anything (other than the parking problem and the inconvenience of the current rebuilding programme!) that this hospital could do to improve. I presented myself initially at 6.00am as a patient with what appeared to me to be a serious eye problem. I was treated immediately and the nursing staff were exceptionally caring during the following few hours whilst my eye condition subsided. Follow up visits and the two eye operations I have had since have been carried out with absolute professionalism.
