I have two kids who were born at St Thomas' and a third one that I lost due to negligent clinical care. During my previous pregnancies my experience was of mid-wife led care with no consultant intervention. Private care is consultant led but not if you go as a non-paying NHS patient - so if you decide to go there, choose to go private, if you can. If not, a smaller place may be better. Even during the first two pregnancies, i had a poor experience but because the outcome was a healthy baby, despite a perineal tear and poor quality of medical care I did not complain - I should have. I wonder if people rate care they receive. Before this I did not see any forum where patients had a say in an organised way. During my recent pregnancy (due date was 19th July) I was under the care of a consultant at St THomas' who failed to listen. During labour, despite having three risk factors for sudden infant death (that I have since learnt) nothing was discussed or looked after. My baby died during labour as I was sent home after I broke my waters and had slow contractions to come back when I had stronger contractions. When I did, I was told the baby had died. The medical professionals looking after me were more concerned with why I was there and how quickly i could be moved to a quieter place - resource utilisation was a priority not me and obviously not my baby.
